Antique Plate, in CT.

Any advice would be appreciated.
I just got off the CT-DMV.org site and couldn't find any info on antique plates.
I remember 15 years ago people telling me that if I got those plates I would have restrictions, such as only being able to drive the car to and from car shows, in state, during daylight hours only.
Is any of this true (still true)?
Does anyone have antique plates on :SNSign: , in CT?

I have antique plates. All that you hear as far as DMV restrictions is false. What you are hearing are restrictions given by Anitque car insurance companies. They are the ones who tell you how much to drive and when, as it relates to the type of coverage you get.

I have antique plates on my car here in ohio, the lady at the DMV was very anal about making sure i knew i was only allowed to drive the car to car shows, special events etc.... but then again she was 100 percent man hating bull dyke. right as she is having her conversation with me Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger comes on the music in the background which was my dads favorite song.... since i inherited the car from him it was like a sign with him saying hi.
I went to my insurance agent and asked about what i was told at the dmv she told me dont worry about it they never check the car for it unless your doing something against the law. she told me most people that have vintage cars take care of them and dont drive them in the rain and bad weather etc.. with my policy i am allowed to do any mods to the car i want... i just have to let them know if i want to increase the insurance value of the car.
I am allowed to drive 6,000 miles a year with the car and will never reach that

The use limitations previously stated are correct, but they are not inforced. (mileage limitations are classic insurance related). The Old Saybrook DMV actually recommended Classic plates to me as a way to save money on registration costs. I don't recall if they said it might also have an impact on property tax.

If I remember correctly, the antique plates were $10 more then regular plates. As far as property tax, I notice no difference. (The town has my car valued at $500 )

Here in BC, Canada you can only get collector/antique plates if the car is 100% stock. Right down the the wheels and exhaust.

I have them here in MO - Yes there are restrictions but they do not enforce crap.... In Missouri you register the car once and that is it...

OK, I checked the registration fees for my cars, classic and regular, and they're all $85 for 2 years. So there's no savings there. Interestingly, the town has my 73 Mustang assessed at the same rate as yours = $500 (maybe that's the savings result of classic plates ) I know my classic insurance is cheap at $220, though I don't recall whether "classic registration/plates" is a prerequisite for classic insurance. (I suspect it is).

O.K. guys, thanks for all that.
Yesterday I decided to take a half day, wait two and a half hours at the DMV and register the 67.
I mentioned to the clerk that I was interrested in antique plates. I asked if I should mention this while I was getting the temp plates or wait until I bring it in for inspection.
He said "You can have the plates now, you don't need inspection." I asked about a "vin verification inspection" and he said "Not required. The car was previously registered in CT and I am registering it in CT, so they don't have to see the car.
Damn, if I knew that a few years ago, I would have registered it then.
So I got my antique plates and I drove it to work today.
Found a new problem this at 4:30 this morning.......
no heat.
I suspect that the fan is either not connected or shot, as I didn't hear the fan when I turned it on.
Again, I got the car completely gutted and assembled it myself and I didn't have a book back then.
I'll look into it, and if I cannot figure it out I will post back here.

NO INSPECTION????!!!! It must have been the persons first day on the job!! You lucked out there. I thought CT law required all cars over 10 yrs old when being bought by another person had to pass inspection first.

My first inspection failed due to no shift indictor and no windshield wiper squirters. Not bad for doing it myself and not knowing what they would be looking for.

I also live in Connecticut and when I went to DMV with my Fastback that was an out of state car they didn’t do any kind of inspection, they only looked at the VIN and said, OK! Love Old Saybrook DMV and don't worry about the plates that’s a bunch of Bull ***** Where in Connecticut are you located?

Danbury. We have a DMV in our town as well. My inspection was about 6 years ago.

I registered my 73 three years ago at Old Saybrook DMV. Car was previously registered in California. I had to bring the car in for a VIN check, and that was it. Good thing since my brake and signal lights didn't work

I'm from West Suffield (on the Mass boarder), on Congamond Lake.

The guy at the DMV was a 25 + year employee and said that if the car had been from out of state then all it would need is a vin varification.

So there it is, from the Enfield DMV.
