well, to make a long story short I am possibly looking at changing the direction of my project...so i am looking to find a new Falcon XR6 engine, but so far i'm not even having much luck finding the going price...from what i have seen, the only one I saw for sale was $9000 australian, which from my understanding translates into somewhat over $9200 US? anyway, that seems to be pretty steep for a used engine, especially considering I would still have to find some way to ship it halfway across the world, I was just wondering if one of our friends down there might be able to give me some advice or websites that would help me out(preferrably at a price a bit cheaper, because otherwise I'll just build the hell out of the SHO engine and continue) as I am, or get a 4.4L volvo V8 SHO cousin

Are you talking XR6 or XR6 turbo motor? The turbo motor is a lot more desirable at the moment, but I still would have thought 9k is a bit much. Have a look on ebay.com.au too as they sometimes crop up there

I actually just want any of the DOHC straight 6 engines, turbo preferred, but if its not, its easy enough for me to turbocharge, since I do that to all my engines anyway, if I can get one significantly cheaper non turbo, it will work for me

They specialise in late model Falcons. The turbo six cylinder engine out of the Australian BA and BF Falcons (2005 onwards Australian Falcons) is a great engine, and I've long thought they would make a great swap into a six cylinder mustang. They make an easy 350 FW hp with a boost enhancement, and come with 6 speed autos or 5 speed manuals.

now $1200 is reasonable(assuming I can get one shipped halfway across the world for $1000 or less) I dont want the computer or harness, I just dont care since I tend to also use standalone ECUs anyway, however having a tranny would be nice...what tranny does the turbo model use? I would imagine it would tear up a T5...maybe a TKO?

P.S. Thanks for your help guys, I do appreciate it, this was actually my first choice of engine for the car.

tremec of some sort or an auto on the turbo models. Pretty sure t56 is possible. They changed manual boxes mid way thru the more recent production runs.

There are a few engine+gearbox+ecu+misc setups for around 7k in local papers.

Is there any particular motor your want? The slightly earlier n/a 6's cos very little while the turbos bring a premium.

You should be able to get it shipped for less than 1k USD. I air freighted a tko600 setup from the states for less so sea freight of an engine should easily be under 1k.

Well, I do of course prefer the turbo engine assuming I can find one at a decent price, but the NA engine will work fine as well, I would just have to build it to bring it up to spec with the turbo engine before dropping it in....though I would probably build my own intake and exhaust manifolds just because for my setup the stock ones just dont look terribly efficient(when used with a FMIC) anyway I guess my decision between the NA a Turbo engine would come down to whether it would be cheaper for me to buy a turbo engine or buy a NA engine and overhaul it, replacing whatever the weak points in the NA engine are(pistons, rods, etc) because it will be turbo in the end one way or the other

p.s. Just out of curiosity...how much did the TKO cost to ship?

I have a question you may not be able to answer but maybe you could point me to a website that can? From what I have read on these engines the current BA or BF engine was derived through several generations from the original 1960s US 250cu (4.1L) engine, in 1984(info gleaned from wikipedia) a SOHC aluminum head was bolted on which later developed into a DOHC head(with quite a few displacement changes in between) so it leads me to the question...how much actual difference is there between a current BA, BF block and the original 250cu block? I have to of course ask, because if I could modify a 250cu block and just have to ship the cylinder head off of a BA or BF engine it would be much easier for me(and I would end up with a 4.1L engine) I'm sure timing belt tensioners and idler pulleys would be a pain....but within my ability to fabricate if the basic block has remained similar enough

ask this question over at www.fordsix.com/forums in the aussie engines forum. you will find a lot of guys who can answer this question. i think there is also some tech info in the tech section of that site as well. i do know that the cross flow head can be swapped onto the US block with a few easy mods, i am not sure about the cammer heads though.

i already know the answer. the OHC heads won't bolt to a regular 250 block because of the cam drives and i think the bolt pattern is different as well. the hot setup for a US 250 is to use the crossflow head with seperate intake manifold the efi and turbo the motor or buy one of the new aluminum six popper heads from fordsix.com

nice find....however that looks like a SOHC....not that I would mind a SOHC, but I do of course prefer the DOHC, being more powerful, at $2000 though I might as well import one...I am going to email the guy and ask some questions though. I've been hunting on ebay and DOHC versions seem to start at $450 AU(500ish us?) I was quoted $1500 shipping by one company, of course thats without the transmission, which you're right, it does look familiar, not sure how

The BA motor (turbo) is fairly different to the earlier ones IIRC. I think it has some sort of VVT or VCT or something... I have a technical magazine somewhere with the details... I'll see if I can dig it up.

Plenty of people have made big hp turboing the older motors though.
