ANY DIFF. IN 289 OR '77 302 HEADS

MY FIRST POST GUYS, HOOK ME UP. I'M GOING TO REBUILD MY '67 289 OUT OF MY COUPE. I ALSO HAVE A 302 OUT OF A '77 TRUCK SITTING IN MY GARAGE. I'M GONNA PORT AND POLISH THE STOCK HEADS AND PROBABLY HAVE THE MACHINE SHOP OPEN THEM UP. ARE THE HEADS FROM THE 302 ANY BETTER SINCE THEY ARE NEWER ? THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

The 289 heads are better, they have 55-58cc chambers (might be smaller). The 77 302 have 74cc. So the 289 will give you more compression. But if you use a supercharger or turbo or pop up pistons then you might opt to use the 302 heads.

Yes and no.

Need to know spring height, valve diameter, head cc's etc.

As I recall 1977 was not a good year.... but in wine.

My question is the spring rate. I know the 289 has a smaller cc. Would not larger valves and milled heads get better performance??
