Here's the situation i'm wondering about. If i took my car to the ford dealer and had them put a helicoil in my #6 port, would they remove the head to do it, or would they do it with the head still on the block.

I dont see how they could do it without removing the heads. In order to insert a helicoil, they have to drill and tap the spark plug hole. If the heads were on the car, you would get alot of metal shavings in the heads.

helicoil= bad

No you dont take the head off. I had to put 2 on my car before motor blew. Its a quick fix but will bite you in the ass in the end. Also the dealer told me that they would never put a helicoil on an engine... you can get a stock head from SHM for like 500$

A heli coil isn't a tap. you aren't threads out of the head you are inserting threads that come in the kit. They would have to pull the head but like 99yellowgt99 said it would be better buying one in the end. If you have a blower then definately buy a new head because you will blow them out left and right.
