any ideas on the vibration from the rear axle?

I have noticed a very bad vibration coming from my rear axle while i'm taken off from lights(not getting into the gas but just regular driven) or stop signs the past few days.I have an automatic tranny and the vibration comes when then tranny changes from second to third at low rpms.As i get up to higher rpms the vibration stops,It kinda feels as if the rear wheels are hopping,or maybe like going down a bumpy dirt road.Any ideas on what could cause this?I have jacked up the car to see if i could see any thing wrong under the rear end but every thing looks fine.Maybe the driveshaft?Thanks Shane

sounds like a u joint

I never thaught about the u-joint.Would that be expensive to replace?

nah not too much at all. i think that i paid $10 at autozone or something close to that you'll need a press in order to get it on again too

If you replace the u-joints spend the extra little bit of cash and have the driveshaft balanced also.

Is it when going straight, or when turning?

If it is a U-joint, I'd get an aluminum driveshaft. Much more balanced and lighter than stock. Definately gives a smoother ride on the highway or at speed.

If it's not the driveshaft, it could be:

-Unbalanced tire
-Bent rim
-Bent axle
