any long tube Headers that dont hit steering box.

Im just wondering if there are any out there that dont hit the steering box. I know shorties probably wouldnt but are there any long tubes that would have a comfortable amount of room between the pipes and the steering box. I know Im gonna have issues with the power ram for my PS. Any suggestions.

I have hedman long tune headers for my 351W swap that clear the box. But as you mentioned, you need the lowering braket for the steering ram.

i had hedmans on my 351w that cleared the box. i bought the lowering bracket, but i didn't need to use it. i still have the bracket.

When I was in high school 15+ years ago I put a pair of Blackjack long tubes on my 67 and didn't need the lowering bracket and they cleared the box. They drag on alot of stuff though. They are still on the car today. Beat up and rusty but still on there. Don't know if the ones made today still would have the same fit.

call FPA and speak to Stan. He may have a jig setup for the headers you need.

I have the 289-302 hedman long tube headers and I don't recall having to buy anything to clear the steering. Direct bolt on w/my only problem being I needed to re-route the exhaust for the H-pipe section due to the previous owner. Problem is, if you have a cable clutch T-5, it's impossible not to burn the cable by the bellhousing where it goes through at with these headers.

any header you buy should clear the steering box. if not then send the headers back and let them know what the problem is.

I made a lowering 'bracket' with some spacers etc. It works well.

And I agree with rbohm, they should all clear the steering box. That's the 1 thing that is consistant with our cars... they all have steering boxes and they are all the same box (only difference is that the gearing changes a little for power vs non-power steering).

I used Hooker Super Comp Swap Headers for the 351 in my 67.
No probs with clearing the steering.
