Any of you with Mustang 04,with Tranny problems ?

Would like to know if the problem with the shifting/grinding is solved with the 04 Mustang. The reason is that i have a salvage yard willing to sell me a Tremec 3650 from a 2004 Mustang and would like to know what are the chances that i have the shifting / grinding problem with it.
Please those that has no problem please post, as well as those that has some problems.

I have an 04 gt with auto trans and I have the exact problem like when I hit the gas right after it has downshifted it does that most of the time.

My 04 only grinds 2nd when its really cold. Once its heated up i think it may have grined maybe 1 or 2 times, and it was barely noticable. car now has 13k on it now too

Mine shifts perfect, its alittle noisy but thats because of the tri-axe shifter.

Mine grinds 1 > 2 and 2 > 3, 1 > 2 is only when it's really cold, 2 > 3 is pretty consistent. Car has maybe 2K miles on it.

i haven't had any probs. but i also had it at the track with 286 mi on it. good or bad depends on person. i all ways breakem in how i drive em. oh ya mgw shifter made huge difference.

all most forgot about this. dad has an 04 mach1. we thought he was having the normal throw out bearing probs. took it in and bam brand new tranny. don't know what was wrong. keep in mind he's 59 and babies this thing. i told him thats why. trust me, i brought it home with out him in it, i blew the carbon out of her

your syncros are wearing out. it is not good if the stick pops out of the gear.

I'm not even at 10,000 miles (98xx ). I bought my car used so where would I go to get work done?

I have a very early build date 04 and yes I have a little 2-3 grind first thing in the morning. It goes away as soon as there's a little heat in it. I don't view it as a big problem but I had my Ford dealer take it for a ride. They said it was normal, but I made them state my problem on an RO so I have a history on it. When I get closer to 36k miles I will persue the matter further and make them fix it. It's really not too bad but hey if I can get a new trans out of them, so be it. The OASIS report on my car says "Some 2004 Mustangs equipped with a TR3650 manual transmission may exhibit a hard to shift condition. Engineering is aware of this concern and is investigating. TSB 04-15-06 does NOT apply to 2004 model year Mustangs." The report also states "Until a new repair procedure and/or parts are available, proceed with normal diagnostic and repair procedures. Monitor OASIS for updates"

So to answer your original question, Yes, you may get an 04 trans that has the same problems the earlier models have. Hope this helps you out and clarifies Fords position on the 04 trans.

btw mine was an early build 04, build date was i believe 10-18-03 according to oasis

Would a new shifter such as the MGW, Pro 5.0, or Tri-ax solve this problem? I haven't had any grind at all but now I'm worried. The only problem I have had was shifting into reverse. Sometimes it hard to shift into reverse. But after a while it goes away. And even that doesn't happen all the time.

A short throw shifter will make matters worse if you already have a grinding problem with the stock shifter. With my Tri-Ax, going into second is kinda notchy, and I feel a slight crunch going into third. And whenever I need reverse gear, I always go to 5th before going in. It helps 99% of the time.

I also get locked out of 3rd, but it's when im shifting at maybe 3500. It's like I'm caught on the gate because if I let go and push it up, it goes in fine. Being kicked out of 1st with the clutch pressed in is a syncro problem? I live on a mountain so when I'm going down the hill (5 mph) and I put it in 1st, it pops out so I put it into 2nd.
