I have already had my car completely shut off when I was driving twice already in the past couple of weeks. Once was when I took a turn and it shut off in the middle of it. The second I was waiting at a light and it shut off. This is serious, no jokes please. Its not a manual and the engine is not showing any check engine lights. I do have a tunable induction CAI with an SCT tune on 87 installed a few weeks ago. Is it the car or perhaps the new tune and CAI? Anybody have any clue why this would occur. I would hate to crash my new mustang just because it shut off for no reason.....

Limp mode without a check engine light? Is this from the CAI/tune combo? It runs great without any problems, it just turns off in the middle of driving.....

I would say ignition and that would not show a check engine light because the computer will see it as a shutdown. OBDII does have a memory of power loss and if you read the computer it will show your ignition on and off cycles. My wifes Buick was doing the same thing and it showed on the OBDII but no trouble code it ended up being a bad ground from one of the coil packs. My wifes car would start right back up and warm or cold it was random when it would stop running. I bet a fuel pump problem would cause the samething.

Im thinking it could be fuel related also. I ran a scan and it showed up empty. But it did come up with a strategy code, which I have no clue what that means. Im using an XCT II also.

I haven't had this on my '06, but I did on my '04 Mach. Yes, I know they're completely different, but I thought you might find this relevant.

My Mach would do that while driving; out of nowhere just shut off. No engine light no nothing. If you go to the Mach 1 registry or .org you will see it's a fairly common problem with those cars when modded. It started happening (honestly) about 2 weeks after I installed a C&L cai and Predator tune. I ran diagnostics; nothing. I unplugged the battery a couple of times (once for an entire day; no joke), and nothing. Finally I reinstalled the factory tune and airbox and drove it for a couple of days. After that, I reinstalled the C&L and tune and it never had the problem again.

I don't know if it will help you, but I would atleast try it.

this may be way off topic....but i know that the new 6.0L diesel trucks are having the same problem....shutting off just at any time, they have been having issues its fairly well known...interesting if the mustang is having the same issue???? (probably same engine contols, or at least similar computer control)

My 02 GT did the same thing after I put on a CAI and tuned it. I took it to the dealer and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it nor could a race shop near my work. So I washed my hands of it and bought an 05.

Had the same thing happen to me at a stop. When I started to go the car shut off and as soon as I let off the accelarator it started again and put me into traffic.

When I bought mine (used) it had a Steeda Cai (installed) and an SCT tune, not installed. It was throwing codes for the CAI so I installed the tune and the car did what yours is doing. Driving down the road it would shut down, twice within a 2 mile drive during light deceleration. Turned out the tune was for an 90MM MAF but he car had the older 80MM.

How does it idle? Sounds like it happens to you at low speeds or trying to take off at low speeds. Maybe if you raised the idle just a little(if possible) it will keep it from happening.
When you accelerate and then let off, the engine will go down in RPM's real low and then come back up again. Its at this low end that it might be shutting off, right?

Oh and if you have an SCT tuner check to see the RPM setting at idle. I beleive that is an adjustable feature.

Ramjetlx;

I wish I could have been more helpful on the phone but you're the only customer that has related this with any of the GT or V6 systems.

I did email Dave @ SCT after your call to see if he has encountered this and will let you know what he relates.

I'm sure it's not the cause but check to make sure the fuel pump fuse is pushed down fully in the fuse box since it is removed to do the tune.

Oh and I forgot mine would do it once every three weeks or so. I recently installed the K&N CAI and in the instructions it says to disconnect the battery while you install it. It hasn't happened since, so you might want to disconnect the battery for about a half hour.

Sorry for the late response everyone. I havent had the problem since then, but Im always changing from the 87 to 93 tune whenever I go to the track. Havent had any problems so far..... But I will say the Tuneable Induction/SCT II tune is awesome on this car. I ran a 13.4 this weekend at 101 mph, unbelieveable!!!! Just launched it decently and kept it floored. Im gonna keep my fingers crossed and hope this problem doesnt occur again. Thanks for your help J Demolet, and to everyones expirances and advice with this problem!!!

Thanks again for your business.

Those times are GREAT!

There still haven't been any other customers relating the problem you encountered.

Have you seen if there is any difference in relation to tack times, trap speed, between the 87 & 93 tunes?

The 87 SCT tune is turning out to be the most popular with my customers.

When the autos are spinning 2nd and barking third, across the board, and wouldn't before, this exemplifies the GREAT JOB SCT did with the tunes.

Actually my mph is about the same for the 87 and 93 tune. It averages at 101mph with a best of 102mph. The 87 tune nets me a 13.9-13.7, while the 93 tune nets me a 13.6-13.4. My 60 foot is 1.9-2.1 on stock tires. Im very happy with these tunes, cant wait to throw on some long tubes and x-pipe. On the 87 tune when the car shifts it chirps through every gear, but on the 93 tune it will chirp and the back end will actually break loose when shifting into the next gear!!! I cant believe a CAI and a tune can do so much to car!! Im used to modifying my 5.0 and the gains dont even come close to these new mustangs.
