my friends dads friend said he'd paint my car for a reasonable price. i just need to do all the prep.

anyways, im not doing any boby work at all, im just preping the old stuff thats already on the car. i already know i have to take some of the hood, and the entire roof down to bare metal due to lifting, but i just wanted to know any good tips on how to prep my old piant. thanks guys.

of course the best way would be to chemical strip the entire thing, and prime the entire car - than start wet sanding - but nobody goes to that extent anymore- hardly anyone even primes the entire car first anymore lol - if you ahve lifting problems, make sure you prime the entire car - if anything lifts, it will be the primer, and you'll know the next day if not right away - than you can address it, rather than scuffing up old paint, and having your new paint lift after the job is done...

before u start anything wash the car to get any grime off the car then u should wipe the area ur working on with silicon wax and grease remover to get all contaminents off of surface. is ur clear peeling ur base? if it is just ur clear just strip the clear get it all down to the base and spray with a sanding primer if ur base is peelin stip to the factory primer then spray with a sanding primer if ur primer is bad take it to the metal and spray it with an acid etch primer then after set up of the acid primer spay with sanding and start blocking from there make sure keep the work area clean and free of dust and grease even from ur hand will cause it to rust and paint will not stick to grease!!!!!!!!!!!acid primer is especially hard on the lungs (contain acid dont wont to inhale this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) make sure u use a respirator when spraying paint strip with 80 grit paper sanding primer will fill in 80 grit scratches

make sure you use a nuroflex primer. it contains "P30" which is a flexing agent for your soft plastics, molding, bodykit, bumpers, etc. it works great cause you can almost bend it 180' and not crack it. the cheaper stuff will def crack and chip. the primer will be about $200 more but do it. you don't want to see chips and flakes a few months down the road. to make sure the car is painted throughly unbolt and widen the gaps on some body parts.. such as fenders, bumpers, etc. you want to make sure the paint gets well enough inbetween those cracks. it will help prevent the common prob of thin paint flaking at body part edges. if you mask everything, be very careful using the razor blade-especially around windows. the razor can make extremely tiny cuts into the paint and moisture will seep in and cause rusting-flaking. it's all about prep & quality materials (paint, primer, sandpaper, etc)... so take your time!!!! hope this helps:cheers:
