Any regrets going w/ 20's over 18's

When i swapped the stock 17" bullitts for 18" fanblades I really felt the hit in performance.

Now I can't wait to get some lightweight 18s to replace the blades.

I just went to the track last Saturday for the first time with my 20's and having it lowered. I am only 2 tenths slower but still well into the 13's, I know I could hit 12's with 4.10's...My Goal is 11's on 20's which is only a Kenne Bell away!:hail2:

The age old debate, the old vs. the new.
Some of you remember when 16's came out? then 17's?
Granted things are getting ridicoulous size wise in todays world and I doubt we will see or accept 30's on a new Mustang but, 20's are the new 17's of the late 80's, they are the 15's of the late 60's to early 70's. Yes the wheels are heavy, now but as the car manufactures continue to move toward the trend, wheels will become lighter, etc. etc. AS far as the stress on the drivetrain, yada yada, yada...People said the samething when I put 17's on my coupe 9 years ago.
'you are going to break your spindles with all the added weight'......never happened. ' your ride is harsher'....you drive a mustang for god's sake, did you expect a Cadillac ride?
He who judges strongly typically wants what others have......

However, taste is taste and everyone has a different opinion.....

I switched from the stock Bullitts to the Fanblades just as you did(BFG KDWS). Mine is the automatic and now with WMS CAI w/Ram Air Tray, SCT XCAL-2 running 93 octane tune, Pypes O/R H pipe, Flowmaster axlebacks and 4.10s it will kick out just a bit shifting into 3rd gear now. Now I will be looking into a stickier tire to fit on the Fanblades if not getting 2 extra wheels with DRs for track days.

I have 18s and i plan on haveing both. 20s for the street and 18s for the track.

As far as looks go: 20s are for gangsters and pimps to put on their SUVs! Really the look is not compatible with the retro image on the 05-07 Stangs.
Most of the people who dig those rims are my kids age.
Speed wise: I think anyone interested in drag racing knows that 20s are a bad choice. There are no good tires for racing in 20" sizes, the rims and tires weigh too much. The fact that they have 20" rims on the new SRT8 Charger's should be strong reason not to buy rims that large. Just go read on any Charger forum how those guys have problem hooking up and can't get decent tires for those rims.

You really think those people and their kids want pictures of your car because of the 20" rims? Well, maybe their kids would appreciate a Mustang with a real drag-racing look even more than a pimp-mobile look? I hear little kids love Mustangs with Fat and skinnies on them. Even better they like to have a picture of a Mustang that can pull the wheels off the ground, and most kiddies know that blinged-out 20" rims will never see any air!

When it comes to speed verses bling real men choose speed!

That's funny..How you lump 20" wheels in with gansters and punk kids.. To each their own.

I'm 34 years old, and I'll take my heavy ass 20's over fat and skinnies all day long. I'll continue to use my stockers with drag radials for track days. Best of both worlds..

As for no good tires for 20's, that's a false statement.. There's several, they just come at a high premium.

Real men don't choose speed, they do what makes them happy, not what makes everyone else happy.

Well put... To each his own!

Right on!!!!

The mustang has always been about individuality. If I remember correctly, kids in the 70's chopped out the fenderwells of Boss and Mach mustangs to fit reverse or wide rims on them. Sounds like history repeats itself...well kinda, theres no hacking of fenderwells to damage value here. I find it amazing how some people can be so opinionated?@*&:nono: I am personally going with the Foose Nitrous 2 rims in 20"....they look like oldschool torq-D rims to me. Will post pics when done!

"Customizing your mustang the way YOU want it.......just another part of the american dream" :flag:
