If you look behind where the dist would be on a Mustang, there's a part number cast into the lower intake.

F87E-9K461-BA is the early EGR style manifold. The 65mm TB can also be modified to work on a FOx

F87E-9K461-BB is the later style non-EGR intake manifold.

If you have the choice, the -BA intake is the one to get. Take the TB and the injectors as well

Got it. Thanks for the additional advice.

There you go. There is also some company out there that makes a factory looking "5.0 HO" intake plate to fit on an Explorer intake.

The stock HO plate fits on fine.

I wasn't even aware of that. Someone would have to look really carefully, and be very keen to the details to be able to tell that part from a stock intake.

That would be a nice touch. I was going to see if I could somehow modify my old one but getting a replacement sounds like a better plan. THX.

The only real difference on the intake plate is that two of the holes in the Explorer upper are left undrilled. You have to drill and tap those holes if you want to use all four mounting screws.

Very cool. I actually got curious and ended up finding your intake in google search.

How Bad Will It Hurt Performance? - Stock Intake.

Kind of tempted to put the stock upper/lower intake manifold back on - a heavily ported one at that. Only because I'm kind of going OCD on this restoration / "making it stock" thing... So here's the current setup: Typhoon intake (ported), 76mm TB/spacer, 76mm BBK MAF, 24# injectors, BBK long...

That one wasn’t mine. Just a random intake off the net.

here’s mine, but I’m actually going to run a 93 cobra intake. This one will be a wall-hanger

I put a little extra work into it to make it look like a stock HO intake. Ground the nub off the side and took off some casting flash to smooth it up a bit like the HO upper.

I just checked ebay again. Packed full of Explorer intakes in the $200 to $300 range.

I once polished a Cobra intake to a mirror finish. That was back in high school when I had like...lots of extra time.

That’s exactly what I want to do with the intake I have. Going to go on my Mercury eventually.

Hit paydirt at boneyard in Hazleton PA this morning. Got the intake and throttle body for $85. Injectors were caked with sludge so I passed on those. Thx for all the tips and advice I got on this.
