Anybody have shelby side scoops on their coupes?

Hey guys,

Caught the end of overhaulin the other day, and chip and his team resto-ed a 65 mustang hardtop. Its stance and whee/tire combo is similar to what I'm doing. But I noticed the shelby side scoops, and thought that they didn't look too bad. Wasn't a fan of that on coupes, but now I'm hungry to see more pictures. So post pics!

Also, I'm assuming they are just fiberglass pieces. Are they screwed on or do they have to be fiberglassed on?

I added mine before I had it painted back in 94' and I am not really a big fan of them at this time. They are fiberglass and mine are pop riveted into place....That was fun as you have to take the rear regulator out and hold them into possition. When the car was just primer I thought they were the ticket but the color just makes them weird to me.

i dont have them on mine, and the jury is still out as to whether i will instlall them or not.

All of the GT/CS cars were coupes with side scoops. I think they look good

I used to think they looked good...but I've changed my mind, I think no ornaments or scoops looks the best now....if you do put hem on, at least make them functional, to me

I keep going back and forth on whether I like this car....regardless, its the only car I do like the side scoops on

p.s. off topic, I think the E2 kit would look much better with a front bumper

Personally, I think the Shelby scoops ONLY look good on 67-68 body styles. JMO.

I know it not a coupe but we bonded them on a convertible and fastback. We started to make them functional on the convertible but you can't roll the back window down.

scoops and springs

The 69-70 shelbys have always been my favorite and have the scoops on my coupe. Though I dont think they were ever functional from the factory after like 67.

What Im curious about is how to lower my front end to get a nice look without going super low. All I can ever get is the standard "cut your springs answer" Im looking for another answer.

That is the only answer because that's the only way to do it. Cut 1/4 coil off at a time till it sits the way you want. That's it !
The 1" upper arm drop will only lower the car about 1/4" to 3/8".

I remember when I was building my Cobra Jet Super Stocker back in 1971 I wanted to lower the front end I tried used 6 cyl springs. It looked great nice and low only trouble was the headers were hitting the ground. I went to 302 springs. Now I did the Shelby drop using Opentracker front suspension and cut Moroso springs. Unless you go to a coil over front suspension you will have to cut the springs.

I like scoops. I ran the tubes on my 66 coup all the way to the backing plate. It's just mock-up at this point and the car still needs a lot of work, and a bit of cleaning.
It look's like overkill to me but they're not fake anymore.

Why make the scoops functional? Have you EVER had your rear brakes overheat and glaze? Not me, and I race the thing... I just think it looks cool on there!

shakkin66, I have seen your car before and really liked it, what type of front end is on it and where did you get it??? Also the rims, what size are you running and type, thanks.....I currently have the r-type front but would like to change to your style with the bumper... thanks

Riddler1, Thanks for the complements on the car! The front is just a the R- Model which uses the bumper that I hacked up back in the 90's with some 3" pvc ground to the correct angle and then glassed in. I was trying to add driving lights.....It looked stupid but I really like the open holes now as I plan on an intercooler at some point and can utilize them then. The wheels are 17x7 I think with 4.25" backspacing. The rears are 8" wide. They are the Torque Thrust IIs and you will hear people say they are too popular but I love them. I have 225s on the front and never scrub but couldnt pull off the 245's I had bought back in the late 90's
Thats funny you have the other front as I always wanted one of them but wish someone would clean it up where the bumper was to go?? Got any pics of your car?

I attached a quick pic there of my mustang, it is also a 66. looking to change the front end to something like what you have, one with a bumper......looking to make some changes sometime soon

Im still on the fence...lol.. i'll probably buy them and test them out before paint. Thats a while away yet

I was always wondering how you can keep these functional over a winter, after all that rain+snow+mud+salt mix ends up in the body. slight modification preserving its look would definitely help this design
