I'm looking at the FRPP M5230-M55 3" catback for my 04 cobra. I'm getting a deal from the dealership so its a hell of a lot cheaper than anything else (including MAC) and apparently its very loud.

I can't find any sound clips of it, but a guy on corral has it and says its basically a straight through muffler. Anybody who's heard it care to give some insight?

I haven't heard one, but...

Find out who actually makes it, (Ford doesn't make it)you'll probably get it cheaper from a performance parts dealer. Ford sells aftermarket parts at actual retail, you'll be able to find street pricing elsewhere.

I found that Ford P/N via Google for $309.99.

That is one loud catback, the 3" piping throughout is the main reason.
$300 is about as cheap as you'll get it for, don't worry about searching around for a far lower price - it won't happen. GEF Racing, Diversified, your local Ford parts counter, or a host of other FRPP retailers all offer this catback.
I heard an '01 with that catback (to be fair, it also had an O/R midpipe) in person but it was an absolute screamer - not something I'd want in a daily driver. However, if it was a track/weekend only car, then that's another story.

If you like a good, loud, healthy exhaust note, this is the catback to get because it definately leans towards the "louder" end of the spectrum (opposed to more quiet FRPP FR500 catback - the one that includes the downstream "X").

Thanks guys. This is my daily driver, but after trading in my GT that had a magnaflow catted X and magnapacks on it this cobra is just dead quiet. Right now I'm looking at a Bassani O/R X as well, but after the feedback about the sound I think I'm just going to try the catback first and see how unquiet it is.
