Anyone else ever hear of this???(cheap alluminum d/s)

I was just told on the stangnet chat that the driveshaft from a ford aerostar fits our car. Since they came with aluminum d/s I figured this would be a cheap mod with some decent results, can anyone confirm this?

wow, never heard of it. but bet your bottom dollar, i would rather pay the extra money than recieve an aerostar's driveshaft. good thing i got mine from my auto teacher for $75 brand new

yeah i think like a 97 aerostar with all wheel drive is the one you need

uhh... I don't think they made aerostars in 97 I'm pretty sure it's been the windstar for alot longer than that..

'97 was the last year. I remember 'cause my pops bough his new in '96 and was sad because they stopped making his car a year later.

Well if you can save a dollar or so and put a nice mod on your car, by all means do it. I have never heard of it though, but most ford parts are interchangeable.

i heard 93 and up aerostars are the one you want, did anybody here actually go ahead and do this mod because i need a DS and i don't wanna spend money on a stock one if i can get a stock aluminum shaft off of a van

This was hashed out a couple years back. At the time, the cost of buying new U-joints, and having them installed with the yoke and pinion flange plus the cost of a decent junkyard shaft, rivaled the cost of a new FRPP DS.

With the cost of aluminum way up (and the FRPP shafts along with it), it might be an affordable alternative.

And is it basically a bolt on? I mean, we don't have to cut it down?
Can you use the same yoke and stuff, i'd prolly get differen't new ujoint ne way, but what can be used?

i heard you need different u joints and use the mustangs yokes and no cutting but other people say you need to cut. who knows
