If i downshift at any RPM higher than 3 grand, my tires chirp.

This only happens accidently.

happens all the time Especially if i downshift to 2nd when im racing, gotta love the sound. Anyone know if thats bad for our cars or is it just the sudden change in RPM's?

Its not really good for the car (although a lot o f fun) but if its bad for anything, it puts additional stress on the whole drivetrain. it is just a sudden burst of torque to the tires that wasnt there before.

Are you guys dropping the clutch??

I rev match and have no problem down shifting without making noise. Barking is tires is nice and all, but only when I want to

Yeah, you've got the idea. It's not like you're being easy on the car when you do it.

I did it on a test drive when I THOUGHT I was in 3rd but I was in 5th and downshifted to 2nd. I thought it was about to blow up! I was doing 70MPH.

Rev matching takes more skill then just revving up and dumping the clutch to show off.

...

I don't think it's actually barking the tires - I think the tires are actually sliding.

At least, that's what my mechanic told me after my first 5-3 downshift.

Any chance they could be sliding and not spinning?

Er, that's not my point, the original poster seemed confused about why it was happening... If you drop the clutch, course it's gonna happen.
