Anyone ever have problems with DCC fan controllers?

On my way home I noticed my engine was running really hot. I limped home with the heater on and dicovered the fan was not running. If I put battery voltage to the fan directly, it works. But the DCC fan controller is not running the fan. Any ideas?

Could be the "stand offs" on the controller. I had that problem, email the guy who ownes DCC, I forget his name, he is really helpfull. He may even send you the new upgrade kit for free.

Standoffs, eh? Do you mean the rubber isolators on the mounting screws or the studs you connect the wires to.

Also make sure you check that the temperature probe wire (the one with the blue L shaped plastic plug) is fully seated on the "stand-offs." Mine slips off while driving if I don't keep something on it to hold it down (I use a piece of electrical tape for now.)

I emailed him last night and he was really helpful. I am thinking that the controller is bad at this point. I still have some more troubleshooting to do, though. I am gonna hook a small computer fan to it since they are also 12V and simulate the heat with some hot water or a hair dryer or something. I am hoping this will rule out the fan motor completely since it is like $100+ around here new. If it is the fan, then I guess a junkyard'n I will go... again.

That was my first thought too. But, the temp probe was fine. I haven't put it on a meter yet though.

It was really odd the way this failed. I drove to the beach(45min) no problems. I was there a few hours went and got gas and food (5Miles, maybe) and all was well. An hour or two later I drive home and about 10 minutes from home I notice it is running hot. The fan wasn't coming on. Luckily, I was close to home and on a road that is long and straight without many lights.

you can also bench test the cooling fan by unplugging the motor and running direct power and ground to it.

From what I remember they loosened and sometimes they wouldn't make contact and sometimes they would. If you wiggled it the fan would turn on and off.

Brian sent me some that were designed differently and they wont loosen. Works great so far.

I had it at the track (1 hour away) and It was in the 250 or 260 range way to hot for a supercharged 306. So I aborted several runs to keep it cool. I even thought about putting the stock clutch fan on and putting this electric fan in the front of the radiator. Any thoughts please?

It is actually a fan controller, but Mr. Baskin offers packages as I recall (fan and controller). His site is www.dccontrol.com .

I would not really want a large fan in front of the radiator - the fan-body acts as an impediment to air flow. We are assuming that you run cool at speed, right? That would suggest the radiator is capable of rejecting enough heat, if fed enough air. If so, I dont see how anyone could not be happy with one of Mr. Baskin's controllers. Such a cool idea compared to old on/off (all or nothing, huge start-up amperage drawing) controllers.
