Anyone ever swap from 5.0 to Supercharged 3.8 ?

Are they any lighter? You would think it would be entertainable considering the supra's are 3.0 liters and turbo'd and blowing away mustangs left and right. I seriously don't get it.

This guy came to my work and had a Super Coupe motor in a 96. It was jammed in there with a spoon, had no room to work at all. He had to have all custom piping made from PVC. It looked like hack work to me, but it was interesting and cool. He said it moves pretty good too. He said it took a lot of time and $$$$

sorry about the harsh comments, I was drinking last night.

my hate for the 3.8L motors comes from the head gasket issues.....I've been through several cars that all blew, and fixable or not, I'll never touch that motor again.

It would be a hell of a lot less headache, and you would be much better off sticking with a windsor based motor. You said the 3.8 was torquey, a 347 will have a helluva lot more torque than a 3.8 with less headache, and aftermarket parts are dirt ass cheap for a windsor.

It's just not a practical swap. It'll end up costing you more money than a budget built 302 and net less HP. If fuel economy is your issue then build (or rebuild) a 302 with that in mind.

I had once, considered putting one of those 3.8s onto a tractor mower. I never got around to starting that project though.

I don't see any way possible for a 3.8sc motor easier to work on than your standard 5.0. I've owned an sc myself hated working on it every minute a simple plug change is a monster on those, along with valve cover gaskets. You gotta take half the motor apart just to get it done. None the less it would be a cool swap to be done though not sure if the sc motor weighs less than a 302 but it may come in use for autocross if it were too.
