I had some metal spacers made so that they would clear my turbo kit and then i bought some shortened endlinks. It would have worked fine, it cleared my header but it still hit my crossover pipe. If you want the spacers PM me your address and i'll ship them to you. I probably won't be able to ship them until next week though as I'll be working long hours next week.
I would jsut space it down like you are saying... even 1/2" will be plety from the sounds of it. I don't even know if I would worry about the endlinks...
I can't see what lowering it 1/2" or so on both mounts would do in terms of pre-load, its just basically going to rotate slightly. I wouldn't worry too much about endlinks, since many of us drop our cars 1.5-2" without ever worrying about end-link length. IMO spacing the sway bar downward would have the same effect as dropping the suspension the same amount. That being said, you probably could bennifit from the end links being shorter since idealy you'd want the ends of the bar sitting parallel to the ground at ride height, as opposed to inclined upwards.
