Anyone Fanatical About Their Car?

I wonder how many guys and girls bought a new Mustang and are going down the path that I did. My first "nice car" was a Boxster S and I did not know how to really enjoy a car. I would pull the car from the driveway and wipe it down, constantly looking for damage and imperfections. Then off I would go on some AWESOME mountain roads where a Boxster belongs. Ater driving and enjoying the car I would then come home and immediately start washing and vacuuming the car. I ended up cleaning and worrying about the car more than I drove it. I then bought an S4 and with this car I just drove it. I didn't worry about parking it, I bought it to the car wash instead of hand washing it. I never vacuumed the car. Guess which car I ended up enjoying more? Yes I still watch where I park my Mustang and the FIRST thing I did was PROTECT THE PAINT but other than that I simply just enjoy the car and don't worry about nickel and dime issues. I have protected the car with the best product available, if it gets damaged well I did the best I could. I guess maybe some people enjoy being a fanatic over their car but for myself I need to just drive the damn thing.

I'm the same way. Mine is a daily driver so it is subject to the daily road and weather abuse. I wash it wash & detail it once a week but don't touch it during the weekday. I would probably go insane worrying about it otherwise.

I'm struggling to find equilibium here. I want it to stay pristine, but it's a black car and it's driving me crazy.... and it's only been three weeks.

I'm kind of hoping for that first door ding to chill me out and get me back to normal -but with a car this pretty, you kind of have an obligation to the rest of the guys on the road to keep it up I think.

So far I'm a fanatic.

Just curious, what did you do? I know you're a Zaino advocate (which I'm in the process of getting) but did you have anything else done to it? I've heard of "paint protection", but am not quite sure what it is.

black looks fantastic, but it really is a pain after awhile, and it doesnt look good in sunlight, much better in the shade... they even wrote a song about that.... every time i went out to my garage i could see the dust on it and i had to wipe it down... after awhile it just gets to be a pain.. and old. but it the most striking color when it is clean. a boat in a dark color on the side is even worse, its twice as long and 10 times more likely to show every little scratch and dirt. i will never, buy a black car or dark color sided boat ever again thats for sure.

My goat is my daily driver but I do take GOOD car of it. It gets washed, waxed, leather treated, ect. I'm not going freak about a little road rash but door dings make me crazy!

That is scary ! I even go to the window to check on my car before I go to sleep. We live in a condo and I only have two parking spots. And yes I park right in the middle of the two (don't want any door dings). My girlfriend totaled her 2000 Saturn and shes saving for a new car. So in the meantime
am parking like that. I have already considered buying a house w/ garage
so my pony would be safe. And yes I park really far away and park the car sideways taking two parking spots when I go out to other places. I wash my mustang at least twice a week and constantly check for body damage of any kind (door dings, scratches). I've had her since 3/05 and I just ordered my Zaino kit for next weekend's detailing - am soooo excited !!

Sacha, I had posted photos of my paint protection but they were lost in the crash. If protecting your car is important to you then paint protection is the best investment you will ever make. My car has an entire ArmourGlove protecting it. All areas of the car that get damaged during normal use are covered with a thin clear 3M material. It is invisible from less than 5 feet away and if I didn't point it out to you you would NEVER know its on my car. I just got back from my dealer and pointed it out to him and he had to stand AGAINST the car to see it. The ENTIRE FRONT of my car is covered in this material. The hood, bumper, and front fenders are covered as well as the headlights. The rocker panels, door edges (where your door hits something when you open it) and door cups (where your fingernails scratch the paint) are all protected. Even the door sills where your shoe scratches the paint are covered. Take a look at your door sills in 3 months, they will be all scratched and damaged. NOT ON MY CAR! Take a look at the front bumper of your car in 6 months, it will be full of small chips from rock damage. NOT ON MY CAR!! I can drive behind a dump truck thats throwing rocks and I don't worry, my entire car is protected!! IMO: Best investment you can put into a new car. WWW.ARMOURFENDAMERICA.COM. The material is lifetime guaranteed and will not peel or damage your paint in any way. It can easily be removed at any time!! These guys drop 30K on a car and then don't bother to protect it. Makes no sense to me! Its ALWAYS the first thing I invest in when buying a new car.

Stangracer, most people are completely iN the dark regarding paint protection. Since they know nothing about it you will hear ridiculous arguments against it. Paint Protection is by far the BEST thing you can purchase IF you want to PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT. I have had it on 4 or 5 different cars and on at least 2 of them it paid for itself.I had a WRX that was parked in the garage. The cleaning lady dropped a hammer on the hood of the car. A HUGE dent was put in the hood and the Armourfen material was damaged BUT the paint was completely undamaged. Instead of being forced to have the hood removed and the dent pulled and then the hood being completely repainted, all I did was spend 40 bucks and the dent wizard popped the dent out. If I didn't have paint protection repairs would have been well over $1000.00 instead of $40.00. On my Infiniti G35 a huge piece of tire flew up and hit the front of the car. The Armourfend material took ALL the damage and my car was untouched. This damage would have cost at least $1000.00 to repaint the front of the G35. But th BEST PART of having paint protection installed is when you wash your car after owning it for 6-9 months and the hood of your car is COMPLETELY FREE OF DAMAGE DUE TO ROCKS!! My rear quarter panels are completely protected. Instead of being forced to install mud flaps to protect against paint damage my car is protected and I don't have those dumb looking mud flaps on the car! But the BEST PART is going to a Mustang "Show and Shine" and right next to your car is the identical car as yours, same year same color, same mileage. Your car is FLAWLESS, his has damage all over the front bumper, the hood, and all the other typical spots where paint gets damaged. Your car gets the Trophy!!
There is no better feeling after dropping 32K on a new GT Convertible then knowing your cars fully protected from damage. When I don't have protection on a car I am always driving VERY CAREFULLY looking ahead for dump trucks and constantly worrying about road debris. After I have Paint Protection installed I can drive my car WORRY FREE! If you are going to invest in paint protection do it properly: only have a professional paint protection installer do the job, not a window tinter or a stereo installer. I rarely rave about many things but I do rave about: TIVO, XBOX, VIAGRA, VALENTINE 1 RADAR DETECTORS, FOCAL CAR AUDIO SPEAKERS, MAGELLAN ROAD MATE NAVIGATION SYSTEMS, THE HOLY GRILLED CHEESE, ANTI MUSLIM DOBERMAN PINSCHERS, CROTCHLESS PANTIES, PORNO PLAYED ON MY 70 INCH LCD TV, AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST ARMOURFEND PAINT PROTECTION!!

EXCON I saw a GT vert today that had the clear bra. I tell you I could not find the seam, amazing the owner had to point it out to me.
My car is a daily driver I wash it once or sometimes twice a week. Now that I have two coats of Zainos on it looks like I wont have to wax it for awhile!

Kevin! glad To hear you got the chance to see paint protection with your own eyes!! I assume it was the yellow GT Convertible that had it installed? If so the yellow is one of the BEST colors for paint protection. My S2000 was yellow and it was almost impossible for ME to see it and I knew it was there! My Windveil Blue also hides it extremelly well. What kind of job did he get? Was it first rate or "rough around the edges"? Paint Protection runs from installations that are so good you can't see them at all, to low budget "window tinter" installations that have bubbles and don't fit the car. Did he have FULL PROTECTION including rocker panels, door sills, rear quarter panels,door edges and door handles? Do you know if it was XPEL, STONGARD, or Armourfend? Armourfend oesn't have an installer yet in Florida. Now that you saw it would YOU buy it if you had the cash? personally think Paint Protection is the BEST INVESTMENT anyone can make in a new car. It protects your 25-32 thousand dollar investment better than anything ever made!! Best thing since DVD PORNOS!!

It was XPEL. I dont think he had the full protection, just the clear bra.
I would have to say it was first rate. It was not rough around the edges no bubbles or anything like that.
You ask if I had the cahs to get that done hhmmm HECK YES!!!
I will look into the nose guard to start with. It seems well worth it, considering the sand blasting that the front of the cars get driving down the highways and byways down here, not to mention those nasty a** love bugs!

Ah its good to hear from at least ONE lucid person!! If you can swing it get the entire nose down NOW before you get damage. I always get my car done within the first 500 miles. Kevin, trust me this stuff is THE BEST!

We do not drive the car every day. If it is going to rain it sits in the garage. Every time we drive it, no matter how far, I wash it before it goes back in the garage. I am embarassed to say how many times I have waxed the car and it doesn't have 800 miles on it yet, lol!

Unfortanately I ill have to revise my above post regarding the Megellan Road Mate!! After using this Navigation system for awhile its GOOD but its not GREAT. It is a good unit for a coupe but the voice prompts are so quiet that you can't hear it in a ragtop. Go with the GARMIN!!

I'm way obsessive about keeping my car perfect. But, I enjoy driving her just as much as I enjoy meticulously cleaning her. I suppose I could stand to chill out a little on the cleanliness thing, tho'. I was completely bummed this morning when I pulled her (gleaming) out of the garage into the drizzel and rain (no longer gleaming) whimper....but that's a Virgo for ya.
