Does anyone here have heat soak issues? My 94 mustang gt always cranks really slow after I drive it. Sometimes it cranks so slow and seems like it won't start. I have short tube headers. Is there an aftermarket mini starter I can use that can tolerate the heat and put out more torque?

It just might be the battery. Over time they just don't put out the cranking amps they did when new. The battery voltage will still usually test okay.

It can also be marginal battery cables. A jumper battery and an extra set of jumper cables (to parallel existing battery cables) can help diagnostics.

Along the lines of what Dave said, you can use a spare jumper cable as a motor ground for testing as well. Adding a permanent extra motor ground is helpful on older cars.

I had heat soak issues with my longtubes. Didn't matter what kind of cables or insulation I put in there, it would just crank real slow when it got hot under there. I went to a Denso gear reduction starter, and I haven't had a problem since.
