Dang it, Guero beat me, lol. Yeah, I forgot to say to disconnect the SPOUT before setting timing. And of coarse, tighten the bolt once you get the desired timing.

Here's a pic of the timing mark .... there may not actually be a mark there .... but there is a "point" to the metal. You'll know what I'm talking about when you look in there.

Here's what the etching in the balancer looks like .... You want use the degree marks to the right of the "0" .... to get the right timing. 10 degrees (at the red dot) is factory, I believe.

do you scribe that timing mark or is it already there??? im getting confused lol.. do you just hold the timing light on the pully and make sure it flashes when that white spot passes or something?

You scribe the one you want on the harmonic balancer.

The upper timing mark (which is between the water pump & tensioner pulley, I believe) does not need to be scribed. You can if you want, though. The metal comes to a "point" there (pic does not show it fully) and you just use that point.

The thing i wound up doing to see the numbers better since i could not see them at all is that i got the white out pen thing and crawled under the car and filled in the dashes and the numbers so it was easier to see with the timing light and they light up a hell of a lot better.

yeah...when i first did it i was looking at the wrong marker....When i did mine i stood on the passenger side of the car and tried to get a decent angle...it tends to be a bitch to actually see the marker you need...just remember that it is more to the top of the harmonic balancer rather then the left side which was the one i was looking at....if i remember tomorrow ill take a picture or sometime tomorrow send me a pm to remind me.

yeah, it sounds hard, but as soon as you see in the engine bay with the timing light it will all came together?

thanks i just hate working on a DD because there is no room to **** up.. .espically if you dont have a garage to work in and you gotta work in the driveway... because as soon as it gets dark im screwed... then i gotta drive back to school for class the next day... so i guess ill have to wake up and start the manifold at 9am to make sure i can finish it...

Yep.

Dan, now that you say that ..... I recall not even using white out. I just took a piece of sandpaper and sanded the whole surface of the balancer. I could see everything just fine. Don't use my method of sanding it, though! As a matter of fact ..... I'm too ashamed to post what I did, lol.

(make sure car is off).

I guess the timing light is like a strobe??? sorry i know a decent amount about cars... i can tell you whats wrong... but i cant fix it lol

Yeah, it flashes everytime the number one spark wire gets spark i think

yea that makes sense... where do you connect it to the plug... its gotta be fireing still so the wires still need to be atached... do you just put it on the rubber??? the 1st cyl is the pass side right in the front...
