SO my friend is giving me a mexican 351 which is cool, but it comes with no caps. I guess this is a three parter. How much power can they handle? When were they made? And where can I get caps for it, like will it support Milodon 4 bolt caps?

I'am not sure about the Mexican main caps, I think their as strong as the Sportsman 351 caps. The Milodon caps are nice, but I haven't found a stud griddel that will work with the 4-bolt caps. I would just put regular 351W cap on and use ARP studs and a griddle.

Milodon makes a NICE upgrade for our 302 an 351 blocks, i feel this a upgrade many people should use when dealing with HIGH HP stock block motors that is so often overlooked. I have seen a stock 302 roller block turned into a 4 bolt block using these Milodon caps....

Yeha but I still need to score the outer caps. Anybody know who sells just the caps, like stock ones. I actually almost scored a full set of 4 bolt caps from a company called Novak or Nowak. They were on Ebay and sold for $150. Anyways, if I do the caps which I keep thinking about, some dickbag will come on here and say done because it weakens the block from the drilling. You know how stangnet is. I am thinking mexican 351 and milodon caps though since it will be cheaper than sportsman 351.

The only thing with the sportsman block is the thin cylinder walls, they can still split like a stock one. I would be pissed if I bought one on fords original rating of 600hp, to then see "due to extensive dyno testing" they dropped the rating to 450 :bang:

I would get a set of CAT main caps.

They probably are not as good as the milodon, but they are steel and that certainly is better than stock. Since you are going to have to line hone it any way, the CAT's probably will do fine and they are much, much cheaper.

I would just grab some stock caps for the front and rear. Since most people say a stock 351 block is good for around 600 hp, they should be enough for you. Also, if you think about it, the front and rear caps only have to be about 1/2 as strong compared to the center caps. The center caps have a crank throw on both sides, while the front and rear caps only have crank throws on one side.

I think a main girdle is serious overkill. Also, I believe they are designed to support the main webs, not the caps. Since you have a 351, it's main webs are already much stronger than a thin wall 5.0 block which is the one that has the main web failures.

Good luck.

Yeah ho train, but we are talking about the 351s, not 302s. The sportsman 351 is reated for much higher than 600 horses. I dont even think they make a main support for 4 bolt mains, plus it wouldnt clear the pan at all, lol. Well if this thing really is a 351 and the machine shop says its good then I think I will do it with the milodon mains. That should be enough to handle 750-800 horses.
