Anyone live in/near Ft. Meyers Fl. Thinking of moving

Ive lived in Tampa and didnt like it much, so I checked out Ft. Meyers/Cape Coral on the web and it seems like a decent place

What was wrong with Tampa? Have you considered Lakeland? How about Ocala?

in lakeland they have sebring international raceway!

I live in Clearwater and like it alot. Ft. Myers is ok but I wouldn't live there over Clearwater.

I vacation in Fort Myers every year. Fun place to go on vacation, but I don't know about living there. I had a job lined up at SW Florida Regional Medical Center, but passed on it for some reason. Kinda glad I did, I would've been hit by two hurricanes that year. I do think it could be a good place to live, but I usually only spend 1-2 weeks a year there, so I can't give a very objective opinion. The bars are fun during tourist season, when people are there.

The crime, and too far from the water, although I did like blasting down the Howard Franklin bridge on the way to Clearwater.After living 30+ years in Chicago(ratrace) I fell in love with the beaches,fishing etc.Plus the warm weather is good for medical reasons. Some folks say too close to the gulf is bad because of the potential hurricanes, but I remember hurricane Charlie, Francis, and Jean in 04-05 and Polk county got the worst of it go figure?

Well keep in mind the further south you go the more congested it gets (for the most part), maybe living around the Pan Handle would suit your needs better. You'll be near Daytona and Panama Beach with plenty of fishing, boating, and warm weather with the occasional hurricane passing through.
