Interior and Upholstery Anyone replace the 85-86 climate controls with one from a 87-89 or 90-93?

I saw someone with 85/86 Foxbody replace the hvac controls from later Foxbody years 87-93. They relocated the hvac controls to the stereo location and to put a touchscreen in where the hvac controls were. It may just be buy the hvac controls and see how it all fits together.

I'm curious as to what touchscreen was installed - did they enlarge the HVAC area to include the adjacent vent? I could see something like that working, especially if you wanted to install a Terminator X 7" touchscreen. Any pics to share to show what they did?

Here is a pic that I found.

My understanding is the vacuum operated parts in the older Hvac switch go bad.... very hard to find....
This might be an option....

I saw on FEP where a member put the Aero controls in their four eye but not in the radio location, he did it in the console. He doesn't say anything about the vacuum lines, maybe they match up ok? Below His thoughts about making it work...

"The blower motor used the same connector, but the pinout was different on the newer HVAC controls. So I just added in the correct length of wire, and kept the original connector. The other connector was completely different, but the wiring was the same, so all I did there was just clip the harness back about 6" on the newer model, and spliced it all together."

That doesn't look half bad - I think the only thing I'd suggest for them is if they would've just made the surround the same size as the faux panel and basically bolted it in place like the panel emulates. I think it would probably blend even better than what that pic shows.

How about the metal cable for the temp control? Will the original work?
