Also if you were to go with 4.10 and Z-spec it'd be not as much first as the 3.35 and 3.73 combo, but more 2nd, 3rd and 4th, AND 5th gear rpms would be almost identical to the 3.35 gearbox's 5th with 3.73's. I think that FRPP had 4.10's in mind for the Z-spec when the choose the gear ratios. But that's just my opinion.
Look at the numbers, you'll see what I mean.
Stock T5 Gears
3.35 x 3.73 = 12.50
1.98 x 3.73 = 7.39
1.34 x 3.73 = 5.00
1.00 x 3.73 = 3.73
0.67 x 3.73 = 2.50
Z-Spec T5
2.95 x 3.73 = 11.00
1.99 x 3.73 = 7.42
1.34 x 3.73 = 5.00
1.00 x 3.73 = 3.73
0.63 x 3.73 = 2.35
and now 4.10's
2.95 x 4.10 = 12.10
1.99 x 4.10 = 8.16
1.34 x 4.10 = 5.49
1.00 x 4.10 = 4.10
0.63 x 4.10 = 2.58
And just as a point of reference the 3.35 with 3.55 gears would be 11.89 in first with less in all other gears.
Don't mean to start anything at all but yours is a very odd situation. The trans with the 2.95 will always hold up better than one with 3.35. Also, did you take it easy on the T5Z for the first 500 miles or so? That may have contributed to the problem. If you didn't buy the car new, then someone else probably took it easy on their new car to break in the engine and trans (the 3.35 T5 that you like). Then you said that you got your second 3.35 T5 from another car which could have been driven easily to break in. Good luck in your quest for the 12's. The 2.95's will let you go into second at a higher RPM than the 3.35's. So your torque curve will tell you which one is better. But to answer your question, on the street, 3.35's give a nice snap of the neck. 91gt with mostly stock 302,s trim 3:73 t-5 car was awesome at the track with 27" et street's my 60ft is 1.6 and 1/4 11.7 . that was all good until last week i blew the t-5 apart now i am torn between the tko 500 and 600 also because of the gear options.chobracobra said:thanks notchback..thats quite reassuring
