I just recently picked up my '94 GT. My plans are as follows:
351W shortblock
Trick Flow TW heads
Cobra upper and lower intake
Unsure of the cam still
70 mm Throttle Body
BBK short tube headers
Unsure of the fuel system upgrades yet
Anyone with a similar setup, please post horsepower and 1/4 mile times

Sounds like an awful lot of work you have planned for yourself.

I remember posting a very similar question when I first joined StangNet. You have mentioned a few changes that may require lots of supporting mods and even though there are some specific parts listed, your still being very vague.

You really need to have a plan for what this Mustang is going to be. Drag strip only, daily driver, road course, there are lots of possibilities and pros and cons for the decicions you make for parts for each one.

Congrats on your '94 GT. Post up some pics in the talk section.

well, i'm sorry for the vagueness in my post, i'm new to mustangs and am still not sure about the supporting mods needed. I kind of get the impression that i'm not being taken seriously. Let's put it this way, i had the 351W shortblock before i bought the car! The car came with a cobra upper intake, bbk shorties, flowmaster 2 chamber, fordmotorsports clutch, and the fenderwell cold air set up. I'm looking for a good setup from someone who has done this swap before. It will be street/strip car. It is a '85 351W out of a bronco or f-150, not sure, but it is a truck block. I also have the efi conversion kit. Since it's an '85 i believe it has a flat tappet and not a hydraulic cam; opinions about the flat tappet vs roller cam are appreciated as well. I will leave it naturally aspirated. I am undecided on the combo of h/c/i; looking for info on that as well. I've also heard that the t5 will not hold up with this setup. Will my 8.8" 28 spline rear hold up? What can i expect as far as hp, tourque, and 1/4 mile? Help a former chevy guy out!

With a post count of only 8 ...... Welcome to :SNSign:

Also & more importantly ...... Welcome to the Ford camp

I myself have many times thought about puttin a Windsor in my 95.

You've got to have some additonal things like hood, swap headers, and the like to make it fit.

All the extra cost of things needed to get the larger motor in there makes me think since I now got the stuff I got ...... I'd just go with a KB.

The Cobra intake seems too small to me

I used flat tappet cams for years with no probs in 260/289/302
however
Not so sure about the reliability of the roller conversion kit

For fuel you are gonna need something like
255lph intank pump
30lb injectors

I'd look at a 75mm throttle body

And for a maf, something like a Lightning 90mm, ProM 77 or 80mm, or lately, lots of the tuner site guys swear by the C&L 80mm with tuner tube.

For headers I like LT's over shortys
btw, not so sure those bbk shortys will fit with the Windsor

As for the t5 holding up ...... that thought is ever present :rlaugh:

And Yes ...... 28 spline axles are not that strong. :nono:
Many have used them at the strip ...... even with drag radials
but
a few have broken them with dr's as well.
With slicks, its a given ...... they are gonna break. :)

I think the extra cubes will drive the stock pcm crazy so you most likely will need a custom tune.

As for performance, it would depend on parts selection and the like but I'd say somewhere in the 325rwhp range, give or take a bit.

thanx for the informative post final5-0. Like every college student, i'm on a budget. i know i'm gonna have to shop around for a nice reasonably priced tranny. Any suggestions as far as tranny choices for this setup. I've heard many good things about every other tranny except for the t5. I've also heard that the 8.8" could be fortified with some modifications. How could i make it so the 8.8" will withstand the power that the 351W is kicking out?

I apologize if I gave the impression of not taking you seriously. I just wanted to let you know that there was alot of work to be done and as a former college student, I know how time isn't always easy to find.

For transmission reccommendations, I would say look into the Tremec TKO series for 5 speeds or the T56 for a 6 speed. Depending on how much you want to spend, the T56 will probably run you $1500 - $1800 more (extra cost of tranny + supporting mods) to run.

The 8.8" rear is a good rear with appropriate changes. I would start by putting in a 31 spline limited slip carrier and some Moser or Strange axles. You may even want to put in a cast aluminum differential cover with the studs for preloading the bearing caps.

I don't like breaking things or not having control of the car (that can lead to breaking things) so I'm going to build up mine in the proper (read less fun) manner of first doing suspension, brakes, tranny, rear-end, and finally engine.

Other things you should consider with the 351W swap. The 351W does share alot of components with the 302, but the 351W has a taller deck height. This means that you will need a different lower intake than a 302 and it would be very difficult to convince the stock hood to close on it, so you would need at least a '95 Cobra R style hood. The 351W is also heavier than a 302, so the handling will suffer some.

No need for apologies, we're after the same thing here: making our cars better. But what do you mean by "supporting mods" for the t56? How much would converting the 28 spline to a 31 spline rear cost approximately? Everyone disses the 28 spline rear, but i've heard that they're just fine as long as your not launching at 6K with slicks. My GT has some suspension mods, but they're kind of mixed and matched. I have kyb adjustable shocks in the rear and stock shocks in the front, and lowering springs in the front and stock springs in the rear. I know it's screwed up, but the car handles surprisingly well, and it looks bad ass with the front lower than the back, lol! I gotta get some pics up. But eventually, i wanna get the front kyb shocks and get eibachs all around. I also read that if i got fox body motor mounts, then there wouldn't be any clearance issues under the hood. Does this have any truth to it?

They changed the design of the motor mounts in 92 or something. But im almost positive that you arent gonna get any lower than a 94-95 motor mount unless you get a drop mount.

Im not sure on the rear end. I have heard of guys running the f-150 31 spline diff. with some good axles. Seems to be a relatively cheaper way out.

The t56 needs a new crossmember, driveshaft, etc. I wouldnt go for it unless i went all out and got the viper spec which gave me the .50 overdrive. That will allow you to get a REALLY steep gear and still get decent mpg.

I've got a 351 in mine. Ported twisted wedge heads, tfs-r intake, custom FTI cam, custom accufab long tubes, tko600 tranny, etc etc etc. I've got a 2.5" cobra rr svo hood to fit it all in too. Never got it dynoed but now im stepping the stroke up. Should be pretty fun this time around.

Keep the questions rolling or search...its been mentioned before probably:nice:
