im having some trouble with switching from efi to carb,, i just need to see some pics of a carb setup with a stock style distributor
any help would be appreciated as i cannot find the right distributor cap for the one i ordered,, its from an 85 mustang with a 302 and the cap that is supposed to go on it is wayyyyy to big so now im in a bind
thanks guys

Why the hell would he need a mini dizzy? So your conversion distributor is from an 85 GT? When I had my original setup in my 85 before it was all stolen. I replaced the cap and rotor once, and I just went to Kragen and asked for a cap and rotor for an 85 GT Mustang and it worked.

Because he said his is to big!!! I didnt say he absolutly had to have one either... i was thinking for clearance issues unless if he means the cap is to big for the dizzy...if thats the case, he doesnt need a mini..

its not a clearance problem,, the top of the distributor is alot smaller than all the caps they keep showing me,, they said that the dizzy is from a 85 gt and when they look up the cap for a 85gt its alot bigger than it should be ,, i dont know what is going on but its getting to be a pain
anyone have any pics of a stock distributor being used with a carb setup??
thanks

a couple pics..
cap should be big.. same as the FI

is there supposed to be an adapter that goes between the cap and dizzy>? if there is then the dizzy i have is wrong because there is no place on the dizzy to screw a adapter to ,,, i just called another parts place and they are gonna order a new one and see what happens
if anyone else has any advice let me know
thanks

another thing,, what carb do you guys think i should use?? i was thinking of getting the Holley 600 double pumper,, that shoud be big enough right? all i have done is the f-303 cam and 410 gear and edelbrock torker 2 intake??thanks

I had to spend the $$$ on an MSD small base distributor to work with my intake. If you would like to see pics of that there are probably some on my site? It hasnt been updated in about a year, and thats right when I got this car running.
I do think that the MSD distributor must be used with an MSD box though. So you may want to take that into consideration.

Someone may have already answered this, but for a stock style dist, the cap is a two piece affair.

There is a base that fits the alum dist housing. Two spring clips on the base hold it. It has two more spring clips on it, and they hold the cap on top of it. The cap where the plug wires go is much larger in diameter than the adapter base and dist housing.

Supposedly, an old style (points type) Ford cap will also fit. Probably without the adapter, but the wire terminals will be female, socket type, vice the male style for the Duraspark wires. I think MSD and the aftermarket distributors may use small caps with the Duraspark terminals. There may be a combination of small cap that will fit the base w/o the adapter and work.

That is the type my 85gt has.....it is not like the one in the picture but it sounds like the one you describe....I cannot post pics or I would take a pic for you. I will setup the laptop tomorrow and show some pics tonite is no good for me.

Are you sure that dizzy is from an 85GT because I never had problems getting a cap for my car and I'm totally certain it was the original dizzy. The 2 piece you are talking about really isnt an adapter. There is the aluminum base, and then a plastic shroud that screws onto the aluminum, and unless its broken, it shouldnt ever be removed. Then the cap goes on top of that using those 2 latches on the side.Maybe you should post pics of your dizzy so we can see it. Maybe you should try ordering caps for earlier and later models to compare. Maybe its not an 85 dizzy.

It sounds to me like you need the Ford adapter. Someone described it pretty well in an earlier post. It goes between the cap and the distributer. The purpose of it is to keep down spark scatter at higher RPM's. If you can't find one new(I've had trouble finding one), look in the bone yards. They were put on pretty much every V8 between 79-95. Not just mustangs, they're on Crown Vic's, Lincoln's, Cougar's, T-Bird's, etc...

Hope this helps.

can somebody host my pics and post them on this. i am using the duraspark dizzy from an 82 truck, but it is the same as the mustang except for the steel gear for the roller cam that i don't want. the base screws down and the cap clips on the base. you must have a dizzy cap off of a big block or something,
