Ok heres the deal I picked up a notch that had the following mods. Stock 74,000 mile 302, Ported performer intake, e-cam 4* advanced, 1.7rr's, stock heads, 65mm t.b., 3000 converter, 3.73's and some other minor bolt ons, exhaust etc... The car was full weight with ac and smog pump etc. It ran a best of [email protected] on draglites with stickys and skinnys. I got a hair up my butt and decided to order a set of tfs twisted wedge's and found an f-cam for free so I put that in as well. I also took out about 200lbs from the car, added a drag suspension and put in some 4.10's. Am I going to be sorry here. There are a lot of people telling me that the car may get slower due to the car not being able to launch high enough in the power band of that f-cam. I can foot brake it up to about 2300-2400 before spinning the slicks so I am a little worried myself. I didnt degree this cam for fear of clearance issues. Anyone on here have similar combo's with opinions? Thanks.

as you can see in my signature i have an f-cam and an aod.......i have no problems launching even though i only have a 2800 stall.....i plan on getting a 3500 stall cuz i think it will match the f-cam better. you should be well into the 12's with yoursetup. i havent ran my car with my current setup at the track but i can tell you that i can pull on an 04 cobra on the street light to light. so im guessing im 12.90 to 13.1......and i dont even have a shift kit

ya plus your idle will suck with that cam with the AOD. since you got tons of money comeing from some where throw in a shift kit and a bigger stall at least before you go hog wild on that car. because i dont see you reaching the full power of that cam with a stock stall.

being new to the forum but not to fords i'm enjoying your posts on you guys with aod's that are turning good times. looks like one of the reasons you guys are running fairly good times are your cams.......in addition to the heads ofcourse but even with stock heads and an e cam in an auto 13.1 aint too shabby......i need to stay smog compliant, whats the biggest cam i can run and be smog legal or atleast not draw attention from the smog nazi's???

Get a manual tranny and lunch at 5000 rpm! :D

Naw, been there done that. I want to try something a little different this time around. The auto is going to stay one way or another, be it the AOD thats in there now or maybe a c4 down the road. I'm leaning towards needing a bigger stall. Is there anything bigger than a 3000 out there for an aod? Keep the input coming.....

Oh BTW the car didnt idle worth a damn with the e-cam in there either so I'm not expecting anything out of this f-cam as far as idle quality goes. If I had "all this money" I would get a custom and not have to worry about that anyways.

the idea of a manual tranny is cool but i think im gonna keep the AOD....im tired of hearing "oh...you have an auto".......ive beaten alot of people that have faster cars simply cuz they couldnt shift thier manual ...

i have my idle set at 850 rpm and when i put it in drive it sits at around 600 rpm.....i dont know what ya mean by a bad idle.....i always get compliments on how my car sounds with an f-cam..

my car is smog leagal as well

i will say that with an f-cam you will want at least a 3000 stall, im gonna buy a 3500 because my 2800 just doesnt cut it....

I have the combo below with a stock AOD & stock converter, and it's really holding me back, I managed to get a 13.5 yesterday after a day of 14's and even a 15.04 last weekend. Everyone I know is telling me that a 3000 stall will make all the difference. I am also missing my cam's power range with the stock crap.

Just a little FYI, this car I bought was a friends for many years so I know all about it. With the mods that I listed, stock heads, performer intake, e cam +4*, 1.7rr's, 3.73's and exhaust the car went a 14.3@98 with the stock converter. We then put in a 2400 stall and it dropped to a 13.7@100. The only other thing we did was throw that 3000 at it and it went down to the 13.1@103. I was amazed at what a converter could do.

Well, heres a little update. After thrashing on the car to get it ready to hit the track today I finally got to take it out last night for a little shake down. Needless to say I think we went the wrong way here. The car pulls like a raped ape above 3100rpm but is super super soft down low. I can actually foot brake the car to the floor and it wont spin the tires. I've tried flashing the converter as well with no luck its just a flat out pig. I'm convinced that the car will pull some good mph but the e.t.'s are going to be shot due to crapy 60 foots. Well, it looks like it may be time for a 4000-4500 convertor. I'll let you know what the car runs. I predict 13.50's@106-108.

Well we did go the wrong way.. The car slowed down to a [email protected]. It refuses to get out of the hole, best 60' was a non spinning 2.37! I tried every fuel press/timing setting possible with nothing helping the down low problem. The car pulls extreemly hard up top I just dont understand. Everyone is telling me that the b&m holeshot 3000 convertor that I have in there should be more than enough. I think its time for the 5 speed conversion, this thing should be in the 12.20's with what it has and the 2865 weight.
