Has anyone found an AOD setup that they feel is competitive with a T5 under road racing track conditions? The stock AOD is just too unpredictable to me in the tight turns in comparisson to a T5, and before I do a T5 conversion, I was wondering if anyone has discovered nice setup available to the AOD that will allow absolute control under road racing track conditions. I have already searched and read all the AOD & T5 postings, but have thus far found none regarding this particullar question. Thanks in advance.

I'm bracket drag guy, so I'm an auto guy, AOD AODE/4R70W as they offer consistency over a manual where you might miss a gear or be inconsistent in your shift timing etc..

But, it seems all the road race guys I know like the T-5 or T56, I think it gives more control in that type of situation...

You have several options that would be as good and better than the T5: you could do a G-Force T5, Liberty T5, or a TTC 3550, TKO, or TKOII. All of these can be ordered with road racing gears for little extra. Then there are the T56's, or is you're feeling rich, the Jerico box is absolutely top notch. Unfortunately for you, none of these options involve your AOD... sorry...

Getting a good shift kit like a B&M or Hurst unit will be your best bet, and shifting it manually. However, it will never give you the same control you'd have with a clutch. You're asking an airplane to do a helicopters job.

Well the gearing alone will not be as stout since with the AOD you will only be using three gears 2.40:1 1.47:1 1.00:1 , compared to to 4 of the T5 3.35 1.99 1.33 1.00 . I would find a nice 26-2800 true stall converter, A HUGE tranny cooler, either a manual V/B or a good quality shift kit like the Transgo with High rev govener, and set of gears. heat will be your biggest problem in reliablity.

An AOD and road racing go together a bit like John Stevens and Latin music (American Idol fans insert comment here). However, if you are determined to keep your AOD, better to contact Lentech www.lentechautomatics.com to see what your options are. Theirs is the only valve body that gives you a normal shifting pattern instead of doing the 1-3-1 shuffle (which most auto gurus will tell you is very detirmental to your AOD's lifespan), when you need to hold second.
