I've had my Mustang since i was 16 and know i'm 24. Ivebeen through about 5 AOD tranny's. My last one lasted quite a while because i installed a B&M shift kit and a tranny cooler with a B&M hole shot stall converter. My question is what would you do? Would you buy another AOD and install a shift kit and just wait till it goes out again or buy a C-4 because i hear you can pick up 3 tenths by just switching to a C-4. But i have 4:10 gears and with my AOD i can cruse on the highway at 75 or 80 on super freakin long road trip without a problem then go to the local track right after words and run a 10 second pass. I love that about my car and the AOD decent gas mielage, highway crusin, long distance , and straight out 10 second 1/4 mile passes. What will i gain or lose going to a C-4?

If you're running that much power thru an AOD,
even with a shift kit (& B&M doesn't have a good
rep on their shift kits), it's no wonder you're been
going thru them.

Here's some info on making AODs live behind
power. You'd obviously want to go to the highest
level in here, or at least up to the point you
swap gearsets.

http://www.lincolnsonline.com/article111.html

Another option is to get a 99-up 4R70W from behind
a 3.8 Mustang, do just a few mild upgrades, and
you've got a trans that will live to well over 500hp.

I know exactly what your talking about, i bet i'd have went through even more AOD's if i wasent deployed for the Marines so much haha 1st gear haha.

MacX~ Thanks for the info. I know lintech makes a good strong AOD but its over 2-3 grand for one and i'm not sure i want to spend that right now. I also have a Dodge Viper so i kinda have to buy something for the stang then by something for the Viper or else the other one gets jealous and breaks somethin haha. BUt i'll check out those sites thanks.

Anyone else's opinions or comments are appreciated thanks

Yeah,I guess if the pay is good, you can really start to save money when you`re deployed somewhere out of the US and don`t have to worry about spending on things like rent/mortgage and daily living expenses, etc.

You just have to worry about getting your head shot off .

Haha well when you first enter the Marines you dont make crap for money but then again when your in High school workin some odd jobs you dont make much either. BUt i've been in 5 years and i'm a Sergeant, if your looking to make the money while in the Marines and you dont have a bad criminal background, then apply to be a (MSG) Marine Security Guard. I guard the American Embassy in the Ivory Coast of West Africa. Its supposidly the hardest former schooling in the Marines next to DI Drill instructor schooling. Althought where i'm at its the 2nd most dangerous city in the world but i get paid good and the benefits and perks of being a MSG is definately worth it but again you cant have a big or even serious criminal background because you have to get a Top Secret clearance. I'll be making the big money when i get out of the Marines in 2 years doing diplomatic personal protection for an overseas contracting company. My older brother was a Marine and former MSG and now does that working for Dyna corp and makes 170 thousand a year but again he is in either baghdad or afganistan but after serving 5 years or more in the Marines you get used to being deployed in dangerous places. Its all about a top secret clearance , big time money maker since its 50 grand to get a TS clearance and companys want to hire individuals who already have one because it takes a year or so to get. Good Luck if your planning on joining, you'll like it alot and you will meet some amazing friends who will die for you. Literally

Yeah my dad was in the marines, I believe he was just promoted to a sergeant when he got out as well, although he was just a basic infantry man. is an msg just like an mp but with more responsibilities? Do you just choose that as your MO and they train you for it then, assuming you pass, deploy you?

MSG is a special duty assignement your either picked for or you can apply and be screened by the MSG screening team. Most of the time you have to be on station at your perminent duty station for 1-2 years before applying for. If you guys that are thinking about joinin have any questions or you think your recruiters are tryin to screw you then shoot me a e-mail and i'll answer any questions you have.

Does anyone have a C-4 in their Stang? If so whats the drivablility like top cruising speed w/their gear combo? How do you like it. Or does anyone have a built AOD and if so whats don to it and who did it for you?

ive got a c4 in my car (well, its in there and ive driven it probably 30 miles since its been in) and there is no way you could go on a road trip with it...unless you had a huge cooler and a very low stall. people drove around for years without overdrive so its very easy to do. ive just got a 3800 stall and its impossible to take a road trip. i have to get on the highway for like 30 seconds anywhere i go and im not a big fan of it at all.

Lentech is probably your best bet. I had 4:10's in my 82 GT with C-4 and it was ok but not great for highway driving........to many rpms. blah!

A good built C-4 with good cooler and you could definetly get more use out of it than with the current quality of AOD your employing though. Its really a hard call to give up overdrive. I personally like that feature .........or I'd have a C-4 in my car right now. I love to row the gears, but I also love for my car to be DEAD on conisitant. Ever try to cut a good lite conisitantly with a 5 speed ?

good luck in your choice.........keep us posted!

My old car was an 87 gt auto, basically same stuff thats in my 95 (the longblock came from the 87) but it was backed by an aod and I had 4.10's, 2400 stall, and GER shift kit. I don't think you would be happy with a c-4 if you drive it alot. I haven't had the car in years, but I remember while on the highway I was seeing higher rpms than what I expected. ( totaled car about 1 month after getting the new tranny in.) I would get the lentech because you've already gone through 5 tranny's , while if you bought the lentech, you could avoid all of this and in the long run probably save some $

91ghp5.0~ Thanks alot man

Yah i want a Lentech but eventually when i build my stroker motor i'm not going to want to run an AOD because i plan on making it all out drag car since i have the Viper as my street car. i'm building a 351 roller motor and stroking it to a 427 shooting a 300-500 shot along with a custom camshaft and a few other goodies. But i could just spring for the lentech now and sell it later i guess because the stroker motor is a little later down the road.

I'd call up dynamic and get harold and company to build a full manual valvebody, full roller C-4.......(since your going eventually all drag) and put their brake in it, their convertor.......everything. If I had the money I'd do that to my 88 LX now instead of selling it then (leave the T-5 in my 91GT) drive it on the street/daily driver.
