having a hard time trying to decide witch one to build. Both will MVB with a Trans brake. The C4 built with conver I can get done for 1/2 the price of just the AOD car has 373 and is not a daily driver. Let's here pro and cons and who built your Trans

AOD is pretty much a C4 with overdrive. Do you plan on doing a lot of highway driving or not? A C4 final drive is 1:1 vs an AOD .67:1.. Unless you want to be at 3500 rpm at 60mph then go with the AOD. They may different flywheel, bellhousing, driveshaft The AOD's weak point is the 2 piece input shaft for the OD

If you want the best of both worlds, use the inernals from a 4rw70 in the AOD case. The AOD is about 70lbs heavier than a C4 due to the OD drums. etc.

If you want the best auto trans, VB and converter, I would highly recommend contacting Dan Gilsdorf at Silverfox.

Weigh the percentage the car will see extended street driving vs the time it spends at the drag strip, then factor in how much power the engine will make. If the intended usage weighs heavily towards the drag race side, and your combo makes less than 700 HP, I'd put a C4 in it for the reasons you have already mentioned. It is significantly smaller, and lighter than an AOD, and parts are significantly cheaper. If you are either making more power than that, or you want/need the gear reduction,. A 4r70W is much more power capable. But, it is a big assed transmission, it's accordingly heavy, and the larger internals require more power to spin. I built my own, and have built many C4's in the past. They are not the same.

My engine will probably make 350-400 RWHP, but it should make in the neighborhood of 550-600 RWTQ. In my case, the 4th gear was the needed item.

And yes,...if you do intend to build either an AOD, or a 4R70w, Silver fox is your goto.
