AOD question(s)

I've got a 1992 GT with an AOD. Problem is it's slipping in 4th gear. Any ideas? Is there a quick fix for this?

Also it seems to go 1-2-3 ok but when it's in 3rd it doesn't want to kick down to 2nd even if I floor it. Could this be related to the 4th gear slip?

Last questions: If I need to rebuild is there a kit and how to ID the tranny?

4th gear slip sounds bad because 3rd and 4th are in lock up gears...Did you try adjusting the tv cable? To my knowledge their are two aod rebuild kits (early and late) an since u have the second to last year of the aod you would need the late kit, if you search ebay for aod rebuild kits they have the break down and the manuals an dvds for doing the rebuild...good luck

i wouldnt even bother rebuilding it have someone else do it imo i have went through 3 valve bodies and 3 governors and at least 5 fluid changes trying to fix the downshift problem now my od dont work

band is probly fried, when it's rebuilt try to get a bigger od servo piston, it increases the clamping force substantially. is also possible to have leaking end plugs in the vb but not as likely as the burnt band.

sounds like the overdrive is gone, Maybe slipping now but will soon only rev in 4th. You will have to have the overdive band replaced. This is a very common problem with the AOD when you start applying to much power to the overdrive.

If you choose to get the overdrive replaced you should invest in a valvebodies from Lentech with a overdrive delete switch, this way you can shut off the overdive when ever racing, to prevent it from shifting into 4th while excelerating.

ill be getting a heavy duty od band and a transgo reprogramming kit with a high rev governor

be sure to get an A od servo as well. this should permanently solve the burnt band.

i found an A++ super servo w/ hard anodized cover for 105.00 on ebay also HD super master rebuild kit with alto steels HD od band and tan clutches for 100.00

Thanks for the info guys. I've got to keep the costs down on the repairs so will a full rebuild kit do the trick for the moment?
Sorry for sounding dumb but is an AOD servo something new to add on or does it need to be replaced/upgraded?

the a ++ servo is bigger it is an upgrade you can use a stock servo but if you got to much power in your engine youu may burn up the od band again

Lentech Valve Body

A Lentech VB doesn't require an A+ servo. If rebuilding this might be nice to put in at the same time. You will need to drill a hole for the wire.

the trans wont shift into fourth at wot anyway. just get an aode band and the afforementioned A plus servo.
