Hello, I just purchased a 91 Notchback 5.0 with an AOD tranny. In not familiar with this transmission so I was wondering if theres any way to hold it in 2nd rather than only being able to shift manually from 1st right to Drive? Thanks

you can do it, btu it's not good for the tranny as it holds some intermediate clutches engaged when they shouldn't be.

start in 1, shift to "d" when you want it...then ds back to 1

this will hold 2nd (if you do it too soon, it'll ds, if you do it too late, it'll shift to 3rd)

then when you want 3rd...go back to "d"

but like i said...it'll wreck your trans sooner or later, and only cuts about a tenth off your et

it's called "the aod shuffle"

Yes

When you are ready to shift to second, move the shifter to "D" for about one second, and then back to first. This will hold second gear until you are ready for third. Then just shift to "D" for third.

This is the way I have shifted my AOD for three years now.

I have a transpac kit in mine to make the shifts quicker. It does a fine job. I haven't had problems with blowing up the pump or the overdrive band like everyone says will happen. The pan is always clean...

Here's a few tips on making the trans last a little longer, esp if you're going to be driving it hard
