There is a neutral safety switch on the tranny "circuit" on the tranny end of the wiring harness as well, I believe. I don't think it will start without a tranny to close the circuit.

Yeah, there is a 4 wire harness from the car to the tranny. Two wires go to the reverse lights and the other two get jumped together.

You can run that switch to the inside of the car and hide if as an anti theft device if you like. I believe it will also turn on the reverse lights but best to wire that part in. In my car it worked with the auto computer, just threw every autotrans code it could think of.

The computer he has is fine, you dont need a comp for a manual car.

The starter should be the same for the auto as it is the 5 speed.
When I did my conversion, i just reused my stock starter and hooked it back up the same as the auto. Worked just fine.

I Agree, AOD and t-5 harness are the same. If your starter is different, then you have a new nigh torque starter from a 92-93. It will work but it requires you to totally rewire it to make it function. It's set up differently.

That may be why you can't start the car. Put the original starter back in and try that. It will work with the 5-spd.

Hang onto the hi-torque starter. You can look up what you need to rewire to make it work later on and do the conversion.

87 lx 2.3. It threw codes for the TCC, for the NSS, and I think there was one more but not sure.

I just did the swap in my car, it is older 86 coupe , but same principles apply and possibly wire colors. Under the car in the tranny tunnel area you have your origianl AOD harness that plugs to the tranny, which won't work with a manual tranny. So what you need to do is find out which wires are for the reverse lights, and which are for the Nuetral safety switch, ony mine they are red/light blue wire and a white and pink, you just jump those so that it thinks it has completed the circuit or run a switch in the car as mentioned above and use that, once the circuit is complete it will put the power to your starter solenoid and then to your starter when in the start position.

Oh ok you swapped out an A4LD for a t-5 I thought you meant an AOD from a 5.0 car which has no electronics.
