AOD Vs. C4. Do the Pro's out weigh the Cons?

Well i'm THINKING of converting from my AOD to a C4 transmission. Right now the car is pretty much set up only for drag BUT with the AOD i was able to cruise back and forth from Illinois to Beaufort, South Carolina and go straight to the track and pull a mid to low 11 second pass. I just like the convience of being able to cruise on the highway and go on a long road trip with her yet still whip up on most of the cars around town......BUT since i bought my Dodge Viper RT/10 i haven't driven it to much BUT i'm switching focus back to the mustang.

So what are the pros and cons from switching to a C4?
How much in the 1/4 will i pick up? Keep in mind i'm running an AOD with 3000 stall and B&M shift kit.
Can i still drive on the highway?

I will not being doing any long trips with this car anymore, i may being going all out drag BUT i still want to be able to cruise around town and DRIVE to the track, so a LITTLE highway driving is required.

I would leave the AOD. I personally cannot handle driving on the highway spinning 3000rpm or more, it is a nightmare. Especially in a loud car.

Yah but thats the thing, if i want to drive on the highway i'd take the Viper, no reason to drive the Mustang on the highway except on the way to the track which isn't to far.

ive got a c4 with a 2800 stall and 3.73s...full manual valve body, hooker long tubes, o/r H pipe, 1 chamber flows dumped...doesnt bother me to make the 30-45 min drive to the track at all

Have you considered adding the Gear Vendors over/underdrive unit to the C4? It may give you the best of both worlds. If anyone has done this combo in a Fox body I would be interested in feedback.

If you have a well set up aod, just leave it.

The C4 is lighter, and can be built stout, but if you are running 11's with the aod, I would just keep it.

Both of my Foxes have C4's and an aod is on the list. My Mustang has 4.10 gears, a loose converter, and is miserable to drive more than about 10 miles, at least for me.

Yah i have 4:10 gears also.
But what i'd asking is Will i pick up any time at the track by moving to a c4?

probly not i had a c-4 and switched to an aod and my times stayed the same with the same k factor converter

The gear ratios for the first 3 gears are very similar, so you will probably see no gain at the truck. If anything, you might want to try a little more converter if it's not a street car.

I'd have to agree. Try a little looser convertor. Switching to the C-4 probably won't gain much for you at the track, and with 4.10 gears you're gonna be looking at over 3000 RPM's at 60mph. Just keep the aod just incase you get into a high speed chase with the police!!!
