My car is in the transmission shop today, looks like it might be time for a rebuild, or a new torque converter. So I started thinking about options for my AODE...

Can someone give me some advice, and manufacturer recommendations, on things like: high stall torque converters, transbrakes, shift kits, manual valve bodies, gears, and transmission coolers?

I'm really not that familiar with this stuff.

Who makes good quality components? Also, I'm not interested in replacing the entire transmission with a new one, just the internals.

Thanks.

I'm learning about converters right now also....gcomfx from this site has had great luck with the Street Edge torque converter from the above site.

Also the aode guys here seem to like pi converters www.converter.com. Also a shift kit with gears will really wake that auto up.

Check out www.tccoa.com tech then tranny. A ford engineer did a good wright up on what to do and replace. The pi converters are great converters but pricey. About $700 for a single disc and about $1000 for a multi disc. I would look at a 2800-3000 stall.

I talked to a rep at Art Carr couple of years ago. He said you really dont need a Deep pan unless you are really at high HP (at 400rwhp, he said the stock one was big enough)

If you want to wake your car up, you DEFINITELY need to replace the TC and add a shift kit. (I have a PI Stallion converter). Also, any "higher than stock" apps should include an external cooler (cheap insurance)

The Art Carr Rep recommened:

TC
Shift kit
Cooler
Main rebuild kit
Diode kit
Input shaft

The latter 3 ran about $700 with them. The cooler and shift kit are about $125. The TC is anywhere from $400-$800. If you pay someone to do the work, it should be about $500....
