AODE trans question, Pops out of gear, ect

Recently having a few problems with the transmission. ( stock AODE)

story is the aode trans is factory, looks to have had a factory rebuild from previous owner ( no idea how long ago though)
Well..when i nail the throttle off the line, it hits and spins the tires for a split second ( 1-2 foot of rubber) then slips out of gear into a fulse nutrual. If i let off i can ease back into gear.

Another problem im having.. If i manually downshift it into 1st, coming to a 2-5mph stop.. The convertor does not unlock, therefor stays locked and the car stalls to a stop. With the shifter in Drive, this does not happen..
Beats the hell outa me, why it only happens in 1st, and not Drive.

I have also noticed the shifter hard to move.. this could simply be from my exhuast coming in contact with the linkage below.. or a binding shifter cable.. not 100% sure on that yet.

I replaced the filter 7k or so miles ago, fluid is full and fresh. have a nice large tranny cooler up front.

When my 700R4 (92 Chevy truck) went out on me, I had similar problems. I didn't know jack about cars then, so I took it to a shop. They had to do a complete rebuild + new converter.

A friend and I just got through messing with a Turbo 400 on his 66 Le Mans. One of the valves was not working, causing his transmission to engage sporadically. You can do a few preliminary checks if you feel like tackling this project yourself.

You can check the hydraulic pressure from the pump in different gears. I think we got 200psi w/ the car in park, 130 in reverse, and not much in foward gears.

Don't take my numbers as gold. I don't remember the exact numbers.

You can get a manual for the transmission, which will help you diagnose it's problems. A Haynes/Chilton manual will be completely useless (unless you need assistance dropping the trans. that is).

The manual will list everything you need to fix or rebuild the trans, whatever the case may be.

If it's one of the valves, it's somewhat simple, but you will need the manual.
