I went to a friends body shop today to get a state inspection...I pull in the main bay and an Insurance adjuster comes over a looks at my car, he's wearing a Liberty Mutual shirt, thats my insurer, and he says, what year is this...i say 95, he says have you had this appraised yet??? Then he goes on to tell me of a client 3 wks ago that gets his older truck totaled, he had 21k into it..only to have the insurance give him 3300.00....

He goes on to tell me i'm lucky if they give me 4500-5k for it....DAMN...If someone creams me and does some damage..Im screwed!!!! What is it like 60% of the value and they total it??? Thats not alot of damage....

My bud owes the shop and says, open the hood, he seen the car at a show last week....The adjuster walks around my car and says, you really need to have this appraised.... It was kinda cool..all the body shop guys checking out my "garage paint job" and giving all kinds of props on it and my car....

Have any of you done an appraisel yet??? I know theres some nice cars on this board so I'm thinking maybe someones done it and can tell me how much of a hit the insurance is gonna be????
Im really curious of the appraised price...mine booked for 22k when new, and the damn thing looks better than new today...

Thats something Id like to have some more info on as well. It wouldent take much to total out our 9 yr old cars especially if it has alot of miles on it. Theres alot of us on here who have put more $$$ into our cars then what the Ins company would say it books for if it was totaled out.

My bud gave me the name of his licensed appraiser. He has alot of older cars and trucks that are primo stuff ..
For 100.00 he drives to your home and does the appraisel...it a 8-10 page portfolio with all nice color pics of all angles, all prices ranges for the car high to low and then a summary of your car, and his findings and appraised value, it takes 3 wks to get his findings as he compares it to other 95s in the same shape.....its a cool package..

Im gonna call him and set mine up....I pass along the info...

It won't matter what the appraisal is if your insurance company doesn't agree to insure you for that amount. I checked with State Farm a while ago to see if they would value rate my car but they wouldn't. I figure my car would be worth less than $2000 so it would be totaled with 1500 damage. It doesn't make sense to carry comp/coll coverage. If it is totaled I could get more than that by parting it out.

Don't waste your money before checking with the insurance company.

If you have a lot of mods, insure your car for declared value. Different insurance companies have different policies of course, but I would expect most to support that. Farmers requires that the car be 10 or more years old, which is just about how old mine is now. So I'm going to declare the value as $15k so I don't lose my shorts if the car gets killed.

I had an appraisal done with my orange car and I insured it through State Farm. Each company will have different requirements and policy conditions to insure it.

My particular policy required me to keep it in a secured garage and only drive it "occasionally" never to/from work or school. It ended up costing me about $40 for the year at an agreed value with $200 deductibles, full glass, etc. The appraisal cost me $100. This signifigantly decreased my policy -- it was under an antique/classic policy.

You will have a harder time with a newer car and a standard company, you may have to have an appraisal done and add part of the value as additional equipment in order to get extra coverage -- which will increase your policy.

Any questions, just ask...

i'm getting ready to get an agreed value pollicy . you get the car appraised then call them up and set the amount. my friend with a 93 gt got his for 30k and doesn't pay much more than a regular pollicy . i'm looking into it because i have soo much into my car and i know it won't book for a third of what i have in it !

Depending on the company, you just have it appraised and then set the value. Some companies will let you set it arbitrarily without an appraisal. Then if something happens, all of the calculations that involve value use the declared value, not blue book. If it's totalled, they cut you a check for the declared value no questions asked.

And like YEAHLOH95 said, it usually doesn't cost much more than you're already paying now.

That State Farm restriction also inlcudes some rediculously low mileage for a year too, so I don't have that. I did get an appraisal on mine for $7,000 value.

Got my appraisel done last Saturday....I should recieve the porfolio this week..I'll post it up for those who are interested in it...This guys been in the business 25 yrs...he was very through and even had me put it on the lift....the words..Oh my, and this thing is immaculate were mentioned couple times over, especially when i opened the hood...

I got a funny feeling it gonna appraise alot higher than I thought...two times he mentioned the replacement cost would be over 30k...
I told him it booked for 22k plus when new and i had plenty of reciepts to back up what he saw...he said it wouldn't be necessary to see them...

My son had his truck done to...Oh my, came out again when he pulled it out....He asked if we were in business doing work...nope, we said, there just money pits...
Weird but I think the truck, an 83 with a full frame off resto will appraise at 1/2 of the Mustang...Odd for sure...
He took like 8-10 shots of each vehicle to use in the portfolio...should be a nice package....
Hows this for a Tonka truck...

Not appraised, but went to the dealer today to look at a 93 cobra with 24,000 miles on it, mint condition (selling for $18,000!) and the "classic car" appraiser said it's worth $2500. Man, 94 Civics are worth more than my car now, crap!

Dealers =

wait a second.... do you have a lift in your garage? Cause that appears to be an above ground swimming pool in the background shot.
