I have recently purchased a set of late model 17 inch rims and I need to figure out what tire size is going to be best for my 73 mustang. I did some research and the size I came up with to duplicate the tire size I have on my 14s is a 245/45/17.

Will this tire size give me any headaches? Are there any other sizes I should consider?

BTW: 1 inch wheel spacers are 100+ bucks a pair Ouch!

Um... I should have looked into the wheel spacer thing before I decided to get a set of late model rims. I could have gotten a set of wheels with the correct backspacing for a little over 200 of what it is going to cost me to get spacers.

Anyway I did some searching on the web and I came across some info that I'd like to share with you guys. It is a reply to a question on another forum and the posters are talking about the down side to using wheel spacers.

http://realbig.com/detomaso/1998-11/53.html

Anyway I assume if I get the spacers that have built in studs I will be eleminating the stud brakeage problem, but looking at the kit Dallas Mustang sells it uses a set of studed spacers for the rear and a set of plan spacers for the front.

Okay I'm confused don't you want to use the same spacers all around?

I looked at the fitment chart at dodgestang.com and someone running a set of 17x9.5 rims on their mustang made no mention of using spacers on a wheel with 6" backspacing.

Anyway I think I'm gonna wait to hear what you guys think before I order anything else for my rims.

I think I found the spacer you were talking about. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2466289420&category=33749

So you used four of them the same thickness all around?

Sorry I have so many questions.

I run 245/45/17s, I like the 45 series sidewall for a little "softer" ride, and more predictability (feel) while in a slide. I have run Pirellis, Dunlops and Nankangs. Ive been happy with all three, Dunlops were best traction but worst price, Nankangs are killer price but dont hook quite as good, Pirellis were about half way 'tween.
Imho its a good size on a 7.5-8 inch wheel.
