I believe the horsepower went up from 215 in 97 to 225 in 98, not that big of a deal.

They have a more aggressive tune. There's a few other small differences but they don't matter.

The computer tune is different, fuel system, wheels, rear bumper, and exhaust,<i think> Basicly they were gettin ready for the 99 GTs.

Some of the mustangs came with the up-grader gear of the 327 gear from the factory. The others without the up-grade have a 270-something gear.

my old 98gt 5spd sounded better stock than it did with flowmasters..........i was bone stock and i was dead even with a 99 gt auto!! I my old car was a factory freak because it hauled for a npi car. It came stock with 3.27s but i switched it to 3.73s

Mine came with the 3.27s. I would think that would make a bit of a difference if the other cars were still at 2.73 or 3.08s. I raced a buddy of mine who has a '95 GT (stick) and I creamed him. I've also beat two other '99+ GTs on the road but I don't know what they had or didn't have. I just think my car was having a good day though... But I have lost to a number of '99+ too so it probably had more to do with the driver than anything else.

upkeep is a big deal, it is easy for mileage and lack of Vigilant maintinance on any car to keep it from running to it's potential.

also somoone who can't drive a stick can make a good car look like crap.
