Are adjsutable rocker arms worth the $$$?

I just found out yesterday that I needed new rocker arms. I can get new Crane 1.6 direct replacement rockers for about $90 and the adjustable ones with roller tips for about $300. Are they worth the extra cash? If they are, are they a bitch to install and adjust?

I would not put that kind of $$$ into an iron head. Save it for when you move up to a better head if you ever do. Then go with some nice strong stud mount rr's.

If your valve train was perfect and you don't plan on changing your combo anytime soon I would just replace them for the $90 ones. Or look into some 1.7 for some added lift and sqeeze out as much hp as you can from your current combo. .02

So should I just fix the ones I have. By this I mean, just use shims until they tighten or the other way around and sand the pedestal down?

I would shim them personally I wouldn't feel safe grinding the RR to may weakin them.

A local ford specialist told me not to bother with 1.7s. He said I wouldn't benefit much from them and would stress my valvetrain too much. Don't know how true this is. Would it be a good idea to switch out the springs? They're about $3 each at Auto Zone but installing them is a bitch.

If you can switch the spring with out removing the heads than yes I would. But I would call crane or the like and have them recommend some spring to match the cam and RR being used. As far as 1.7's stressing the valvetrain I've never heard that UNLESS he's worred about old spring being some what 'set' to 1.6's then adding 1.7 'may' shock the spring and cause valve float early that's the only thing I can think of.

Ok, so I was thinking of swapping out the springs cause they come from a 65,000 motor and the I hit them with a bigger cam. I'm pretty sure they're going to give out sooner or later. Since I'll be switchin out springs, just go with 1.7s and get a little more from my engine. Can you explain to me what the 1.7s do over the 1.6, just breifly.

Oh and a local guy will charge me $110 to install new springs along with the rockers. Just filling up the cylinder with air.

Added lift=a little more hp/tq it's like putting in a slightly bigger cam without removing the front half of the engine.

Oh ok, thanks. I'm looking for them and I found the 1.7s on summit for about $125. Still need the springs but will get in touch with cran to see what they say.

Dude, the crane ones don't list as to fit my engine on summit. I just searched for 1.7 pedestal rockers and they came up. Will they work, here's the link.
