I have done a lot of searching and it seems the 1-1.25 inch drop - many folks are using stock shocks and cc's with no problems. Going lower makes things more critical. But lowering the car at all ..is that not going to put more stress on the towers? I have heard of some people getting cracked strut towers. Is this a result of going to low without the cc plates? Thanks.

I've never heard of cracked strut towers from lowering a car. C/C plates are more for adjustability then anything. When the vehicle is lowered it changes the geometry. The plates are designed to adjust for those changes.

You can fix the flex between the strut towers with a strut tower brace from Maximum Motorsports. :nice:

There is a strength issue at the CC plates when using a 3-bolt style CC plate. Most cheapo eBay CC plates are the 3-bolt style.

Take a look at the Maximum Motorsports web site. They have a writeup on their 4 bolt style CC plates, and why they are stronger, and also why they are teh only ones to use with coil-over kits.

You may also run into bumpsteer issues when lowering your car because the control arm is now pointing upward and no longer parallel to the ground. If this is the case, you can get the bumpsteer kit or offset rack bushings (aluminum). Here is a website that explains the Late Model Mustang Suspension Basics (very good info.). This site explain all you will want to know, even about coilovers etc. Read this info. so that you will be a well informed 'Stanger on suspension stuff:

like joe, i have never heard of cracked strut towers. the c/c plates are for adjusting the changed suspension geometry after the car is lowered. i had mine lowered on eibach sportlines and no c/c plates for 3 years so far with no problems at all except for increased front tire wear.

CC plates are not necessary with a mild drop. I've ran C springs for a couple years with stock plates.

Now, 4 bolt caster camber plates are necessary when running coil-overs on our cars. Without them, you will run the risk of tearing the strut towers.
