Are EEC modules engine specific?

I'm about to pull the one out of my car (no use to me) that was originally a 4 cyl (86 model) but was swapped to an older model carbed 302. If it is only good for 4 cyl engines I doubt anyone would want it, but if it can be used on 8 cyl engines I may can find someone to give it to. Can they be tested, cause I don't even know if it works. May just need to throw it away

I don't think the size of the engine matters, but the number of cylinders definitely does. For example, the computer is setup to only run 4 injectors on a 4 cylinder engine.
