Are MAP Sensors and BARO Sensors the same?

I think I screwed up
I bought a MAP Sensor thinking thats what I needed. I was reading through some past post and seen that my car doesnt use a MAP sensor but a BARO.
Do I have to bite the bullet on the 60 bucks I just spent for this MAP Sensor?

Thanks and sorry for the post's I wanna know so I can TRY and return it to autozone.

Speed Density uses MAP

Mass Air uses BAP

Basically it's the same damn sensor except MAP has a vacuum line connecting it to intake vacuum to measure manifold pressure.

When converting to MASS AIR, you just unplug the vacuum line and leave it open and that converts it to a BAP sensor.

Ok so bare with me. The one I have on the car now....
It looks exactly the same as this one. except there is a white knob over the vacuum connection. Can I use this new Sensor I bought and just put that white knob over the new connection? Or am I out the 60 bucks and have to buy a new BARO sensor

White knob? you mean it's capped?

There should be a port on the bottom of the sensor, small and maybe 1/2" in diameter.

I assume your car is mass air??

Remove any caps over this port and leave it open. Plug the harness in and put it on your car's firewall

My car is a 90 5.0 Mass Air

I dunno if its actually a "Cap" on the connection so to speak its just a white knob looking thing.

But my original question can I use this new MAP sensor I bought? Does it work the same as the BARO Sensor

Thanks again

Yes, same thing basically. They both measure air pressure.

Just make sure the port on the bottom is open to the atmostphere. The cap might be a protective sleeve but as long as it has holes to allow air in to rear air pressure you are fine.

On a MASS air car, this sensor is not as important as on a SD car. On a SD car it's the primary sensor for determining fuel curves. On Mass air, it just reads air pressure to adjust fuel curves for density of the air.

Ok cause I pulled a code sayin something was up with my BARO sensor
So I bought this MAP sensor without thinking

After I install this new sensor should I drive it around the block a few times to break it in?

Left it open...

Please refer to my new topic about the codes I got and what ive done so far.
Thanks I just wanna keep my problems organized :nice:

Please check out my new post maybe you have some idea's
