I finally got my Cobra on a dyno today and I wasnt too happy. I took the nitrous kit off my 65 Mustang and converted it to my Cobra, but the NOS wasn't my problem. The dyno showed 289hp without the juice and 397hp with the juice. I thought i would be putting down more than 289hp with my mods! With about a 15% loss, that means I'm only putting down about 340hp to the motor compared to the 320hp it came with stock!!! And on top of that, the dyno kept messing up on the readings. Out of 4 runs, 1 without and 3 with the juice, only 2 runs were able to be read! So do you think that there was an error in the dyno or do you think that I wasted a bunch of money on a whopping 20 extra hp to the motor? Please help
Thanks,
Stephen

Sounds a little on the low side, the 4.10's are robbing some "dyno" power though. My brother dyno'd his Mach 1 today, put down 305/321 with bbk longtubes, o/r hpipe, 2 chamber flows, and k&n aircharger.

yeah, I dont get it, we have the same exhaust set up plus I have the T/B and Mass Air on top of that, with a chip! Plus the Cobra is putting out about 15 extra hp over the Mach 1 stock. . . . do you think the 4:10's hurt me that bad??

Mach 1's were underated. They basically have the same engine as our 01's, just reworked for more torque down low. You should be well over 300 hp n/a though. Most 01 cobras have 300 rwhp with headers, mid pipe, and catback.

4.10s hurt MAYBE 5-10 hp, but the Cobra does NOT make more power than the Mach, its just rated more. Stock for stock Mach's put down similar stock numbers to the 01 Cobras, in the 270-280 range. Could be your chip, what was your A/F on the dyno? should be in the 13.0 range or so.

uh guys I dont think your gears had anything to do with those numbers from your description in your post I think there was a problem with the dyno. Find yourself a reputable dyno shop with a good tuner and do it over.

Sounds like a deal, the guy didnt even give me A/F Ratio, I think I'll go to a different place. The mach 1 has a 4 valver? I didnt know that. Sorry bout that

Is the chip custom burned? If not, your tuning is probably fubar with those mods. No off-the-shelf chip will straighten out long tubes and a MAF without being burned for them. Also, I assume you're running colder plugs with a smaller gap, and your timing is backed off for the nitrous, right? Those will hurt your NA numbers as well.

DirtySanchez. . . The diablo chip was custum burned from Dallas Mustang and yes I am running colder plugs that are gapped at .038. Dallas Mustang told me that if I really wanted to, they could burn the chip for the timing but they said with a 100 shot I should be just fine. I was skeptic but they assured me that they sell 100 shot kits every day and its fine, it's just when you get to the 150-200 range you should back it off for sure. what do you think?

Most people with your mods and a good tune are up around 320 RWHP. An aggressive tune for a naturally aspirated setup will have too much timing and not enough fuel for nitrous, though. If you want the best of both worlds, you might want to get a flipchip or an SCT tuner so you can change tunes when you want.

Edit: Also, some underdrive pullies will get you another 5-10 rwhp.

I saw on your other post that you lost hp with your mods, maybe that's the case for me too.? I dont know, I still think I should go somewhere else, and if the dyno results are better I'm gonna go back to the other place and raise H**L until I get some money back!!!! We'll see. . . . I might go somewhere on Friday and I'll post the new stuff. And also, I'm going to a 1/8 mile track 2morrow and I'll post the times on that too. Right now without the NOS, I'm running 8.7's and 8.8's with a 2.01 60'. We'll see what happens next. . . . . . . . .

All the bolt ons. I mean all. There is nothing left for me to do. By the way my a/f started out at 14.55 after tune is 13.61. The car really runs good!I am not saying these guys that are pushing 320 to 325 hp.are not doing it. Maybe with 3.27 gears and different dyno I could? I am happy with my car and i think it will run with any n/a cobra.
