I ordered a set of gears of ebay that were supposed to only have 500 miles on them and I can easily see thats They were supposed to have come from an Explorer but I doth think these were Ford numbers. I know the 11X41 means 3.73 but I thought the 3557 was a GM gear.
Also there is a chip in one of the pinions teeth. Its not at a contact point but a chip worries me anyway.

Hopefully you guys can tell from the pics if its a Ford gear and if its OK to use with the chip where its at.

Thanks all.

You get what you pay for... Unless you're shopping on ebay.

I don't know that I'd put that junk in my car if I were you.

I hear ya. The guy had perfect feedback so I thought it would be all good. Looking at these gears though.... IDK. I am not paying his $27 shipping fee to return them so I will eaither eat it and blast his feedback score or if that chip is no big deal then I will use them. The faces are beautiful with no scarring or nicks. No indentation from deep wear at all.
This is all new to me so any help is appreciated.

All I can say is that when I pulled the 2.73s out of my car when I was rebuilding the rear with a NEW set of 3.73s, there were a few chips and chunks missing from the old gears. I believe it was the resultant of a couple exploded clutch discs that got chewed on by the gears, which I found the wadded up pieces of metal in the fluid when I drained it. Anyway, as bad as that rear end was, it NEVER wined or made grinding noises or anything.

So I guess what I'm saying is, it may work, it may not.

Email the buyer and returned them at his expense or blast him on his rating if he won't.

The seller just contacted me and said I can send them back and he will refund me or replace them. He said he will contact FedEx and pay for the return shipping too. Nice service.
I told him that if he has a good pinion gear then he can just send that to me to save him some shipping costs and that I can eaither send him back the old pinion (at his cost) or toss it out. I would imagine that he would just throw it away once he saw it anyway if he is true to his word that he only sells perfect gears. I know the ring gear is fine and it is 8.8" and fits my new Trac Lok like a glove. I dont think any GM gear would fit the Track Lok perfectly but could be wrong.

Don't use a miss-matched set of gears . He needs to replace the entire set or refund you your money.

Right as I was sending him the message he emailed me saying that the gears need to be a pair.
So he is gonna send me a new set and pay to have these returned. He believes its FedEx fault and gonna have them pat.

I read this:

LaserSVT said:

And then got all excited because I knew I had to say this:

kck6894 said:

But I see kck6894 is on top of it. Gears are a finicky beast, they wear into each other, that's why the break in is so important. They are also manufactured in specific pairs.

Well he made it right and sent me a pristine set of gears. The customer service was great the whole time too. He said he would give any of my friends the same price on 4.10s or 3.55s too.

So I am gonna put them on pretty soon. Someone on here asked me for mine and I said yes but I forgot who it was. I deleted all mu PMs by accident. No I am not gonna sell them to anyone, the person that PMd me and asked is getting them if he will just PM me again. Red Fox in the avatar and I think 90 was in his screen name.

Anywho, here are the new gears.
