Did Ford use lead on the roof? While prepping the body (taking it down to bare metal) I noticed an awful lot of scratches from my sander on the metal, then I scratched at it with my fingernail and pulled up some metal. All 4 corners of the roof have been leaded. The sheet metal parts have been crimped, welded, then leaded. My guess is somebody had a screwed up roof and used one from a donor car.
Arrrggghhh!!! Lead!!

I believe that is how the factory blended in the seams when attaching the roof. When done correctly lead holds up a lot better than plastic filler.

I freaked when I found lead on my '73 Firebird years ago. It was in the same area and eventually found out that's what the factory used.

I ran across the lead as well in my 67. Take care when prepping the car for paint with that on there. There is some needed prep/procedure (can't remember now...been 10 years since I did the body 
) After about 2 years, many small bubbles (pin head size) appeared in the paint right over the area that was leaded and nowhere else. 
even though it was covered with a primer sealer. Worth looking into. Anyone else had that issue???

I haven't had that issue. I would leave the lead areas alone as much as possible. It's a better base than body putty.
