I kind of like the way mine looks in the skin of a 65 fastback....

That motor looks better than mine! I used the motor out of a 230,000 GT in My FFR, only did head gaskets & timing chain, it still runs great! I converted to carb, used the Edelbrock Performer Intake, Holley 600 CFM Carb, and a Unilite dizzy with the Crane HI-6 Ignition. Bulletproof, simple, tuneable.

We pulled off the valve covers last night about 10pm. I can't believe how clean the heads look. We'll pull off the oil pan tonight and start breaking down the accessories and brackets.

The flywheel had basically no wear on the teeth and looked good. There is even a motorcraft starter vs. the expected NAPA or Checker variety. I plan to get some numbers off the block later tonight to see if it is the original engine.

As clean as it is, I can't believe it hasn't been redone before, but who knows. We have almost no history on the donor car, other than the odometer that said 80K and the title I got showed 171K.

Here's hoping the bottom end looks as clean as the top

I am in the process of a similar swap. I kept the EFI and it was very easy, I just used the stock harness and took off what i didnt need. As for the fuel system, that was also easy. I removed the sending unit and drlled another hole and soldered anonther fuel fitting in there. Ran 3/8 line up to the motor on the passenger side and used the stock 5/16 line as the return. Running a walbro gsl320 i think it is, got it from ebay for 120 shipped. Setup works great and the line was only about 25 dollars. I am young and am a mechanic so I am much more familiar with EFi whic is why i decided to go efi. either way good luck. PM me if you have any questions.

Well we continued the tear down. Just need to pull the heads now. Everything still looks remarkably fresh with zero signs of sludge, wear or deposits. I will likely pull the heads tonight for final eval.

We decided to make up for our low cost investment so far by ordering some new parts today :D

From Summit we ordered up a new Felpro complete gasket kit (high perf), a new Ford Racing A321 intake, a new Edelbrock 600CFM carb (model 1406) w/ electric choke and vacuum secondaries , motor and trans mounts, aluminum Ford Racing valve covers, front sump oil pan and an aluminum air cleaner assembly.

From Mustangs Unlimited, we ordered a T5 trans crossmember.

We still need to figure out/order headers, radiator, oil pump (and pickup), driveshaft, various linkage components, etc..

A forum member is providing us w/ an '85 distributor/duraspark setup at a very reasonable cost.

What do I need to do with regards to the dipstick/tube???

Little Bit OT for JamesW

Hey JamesW;
When looking at your EFI 5.0 swap photos; I happened to notice the Blu-Core wings and tail-feathers hanging on the bench; as well as the Nitro trainer-stick (looked like it was hanging from the ceiling). PM me when you get the "Project Deb" page finished! ;)

Everybody else: Nothing to see here...... just another interest/hobby taking time from some of my family :p

I know I wont buy from fordfuelinjection again.

On 10/23/06 I ordered a EGR bypass. I just recieved it last week. Never answers emails. Maybe his stuff is good, but his business practices are a F'n joke. (Delivered on 2/20/07!!!!)

Wow, that's over 4 months :nonono:

Sorry to hear that. Most of us are working on projects, and a delay of a week or 2 is no huge deal, but 4 months is just unreasonable.

That said, just 2 days after our order a number of our parts arrived today, both from Summit and Mustangs Unlimited. That Sparks, NV location for Summit really helps for a guy living in the Phoenix area :nice:

BTW: Heads are off - everything looks good. We'll probably start putting the motor back together this weekend if the gaskets arrive from Felpro. My son is out in the garage cleaning the block as I type. It's fun training a new gearhead!!! He doesn't mind the messy stuff :D But then again, it is his car and he's keeping me from working on my '69 Vette frame-off.
