ATF fix lifter noise???

[88-5.0mustang]

Hey I was just wondering if anyone knew anything on the view of ATF quiting lifters. Basically my engine started making noise earlier this week and i know its either the lifters pushrods or rocker arms, so a mechanic suggested putting some atf into the oil to see quiet the lifters and if that does'nt work then ur pretty set on rocker arms. I'm kinda new at all this stuff so any imput would be greatly appreciated

atf has alot of detergint in it so if your lifter is sticking because of varnish or dirt it might help you can also go to the store a buy a internal engine cleaner gumout make a good one either way after runnung the car at idle for 5-10 minutes you need to change the oil
