Hey,

I heard you can put Automatic Transmission Fluid, like a quart mixed with your oil, and run it for a 1000-3000 miles to unstick noisy lifters.

Has anyone else done this?

Right now Im running Mobil 1, 10W30 and have a couple noisy lifters, even though they all just got replaced.

Anyways im thinking of trying this ATF thing, so just wanned to see who has done it, and its okay.

Do I just use some Dexron III?

Thanks

That, or I've used Marvel Mystery Oil, or that Sea Foam stuff in the past with good luck. 1,000 miles should not be neccessary; they should clear out almost as soon as the engine warms up. I'd almost suspect you have some rocker arms that are out of adjustment if the lifters are new, but it's pretty cheap/easy to check for stuck lifters by putting an additive in the oil. I'd change the oil out as immediately after doing this though.

I think this is probably the first time I've heard of dirt being the cause of a noisy lifter. I mean... if your oil system is so full of crud that you have a seized and bottomed out lifter then you'd have known about it before the lifters started acting up.

I also read that your lifters are new???

If so, it's time to put away the band-aid fix miracle oil and get in there and fix the problem.

That was an old school trick back in the day :D

In those days you had flat tappet lifters and they could get gummed up
some of the time :(

The ATF is high in detergent and it would help to free up the sticking
lifters ;)

They made some stuff called Marvel Mystery Oil which worked great
for that very same problem :nice:

As for running it 1K to 3K miles

We used to run it for just a day or two and it would do the trick :)

I'd not be comfortable running it for that long :nono:

Here is my take on your noisy lifters :D

If you just got new lifters .......
They have not had time to get gummed up :nono:

You got noise because they are not adjusted correctly :Word:
